Board » Flag Officers » Race proposals » New England Archipelago

Hello All,
It appears when I get a break from work, I have an abundance of SOLitude and have thus cranked out a hat-trick of new race proposals.

This is a short one and might be a fun Timed race when server loads allow (probably after IMOCA). I am also seeking out contacts to try to acquire a polar for one of the iconic Hinckley yachts. If anyone has a Hinckley (or knows someone who does), let me know and perhaps we can add to the database.

Comments welcome!

Nice little race - perhaps not much room for routing except legs 2 and 3 - but that depends alot on winds. Did you plan according to prevailing wind there? Also if you name the waypoints for the islands they are on it is more informative to race there ;-)
I help develop the client interface for the best online ocean racing sim there is... __/)/)_/)__
Thanks Ag... I will look at naming the waypoints. Good idea. It was one of my first efforts at race design.

I did not specifically pick a time of year to race, though the late summer/fall can get some good winds kicked up. I watch the gribs and will suggest a window when conditions look favorable.

ShamPir - thank you for this race, it looks a good'un!

As AGage said, please would you name the waypoints?

Not just for cosmetic reasons but waypoints have their own part of the SOL database and calling one Waypoint 1 has no intuitive connection to a race or part of the world! and.. it would be boring for them to be New England 1, 2 etc!! :-) I am sure New England has some fabulous placenames we can give to our wayponts!! :-D
And done, with a few typo corrections and additions to description.

No specific time to run this, just keep it available to fill an open slot. However, it can get light during summer so it might be one to save for a good Nor'easter to blow through in the Fall.

Enjoy!

ShamP:- just looked over your New England Archipelago race and it is murderous on time. About 90 miles---depending on wind, we might have to sit at the comp for 24 hours.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
Remember Orno Runt? I thought this looked easier!!!
