Board » General Discussion » Position changed after finishline?

In the ever going quest to find bugs (and possible ruin my own rating) I need to point out the following (and perhaps get an explanation).

In the Kallavesj race I finished as number 13. Number 11 was my father, BWHA. He was right a head of me the entire time, at least graphically and acording to the leaderboard.

Standing on the finish line looking at my 13 it suddenly became a 11. Perfect :) My dad was now 11 and I also think the one on 12th place was moved around.

Is there some kind of post processing of finish positions? Or penalties :)

Thanks.
Thanks for your great feedback.

The display of client and leaderboard are not updated in real time, I think the thing you ar describing is down to a slight difference in on the server side compared to the output.

But I think Kalle can give you a more complete picture, lets hear what he has to say about this.
I am a ex-admin of SOL who joins in from time to time.
During the course, the boats can actually have slightly different sailing times, up to 1 minute. An active boat is integrated at least every 15 seconds, but if you haven't entered a command in a while, we drop that interval slightly. Note that his has no effect on performance, we just "push" to boat a little more seldom.

Think of it as if each boat had ha transponder, reporting every 30 seconds. You can see all the boat positions on the screen, but the time the report was sent can differ, so the "real" position might be 30 second off.

BUT when you cross the finish line, the exact sailed time is calculated down to the microsecond. This can cause some confusion I agree when the boats are separated by less then 1 minute. Over 1 minute this cannot occur.
Thanks, that makes excellent sense. That could also explain why why I sometimes was ahead of him and sometimes behind.
