	I see that the weather update times have changed. Are the new times permanent??

	Yes, the times they are a changing... There are two updates to the weather processing in SOL: 1. Faster processing of weather data. 2. The global GFS weather data is fetched directly from NOAA. These two updates cause weather being available earlier. For races in the Baltic Sea using data from WeatherTech, update times changed from 0900 to 0840 UTC and from 2040 to 2020 UTC. For races using the global GFS weather (most races), update times changed from 0600 to 0430 UTC, from 1140 to 1030 UTC, from 1740 to 1630 UTC, and from 2340 to 2240 UTC. Next to the change in weather update times the global GFS resolution has been increased from 1x1 degree to 0.5x0.5 degrees. This increase will improve quality (more detailed winds) in smaller race areas, where the full detail can be passed to the SOL clients and to Sailplanner. The global GFS data is now available from pole to pole, so there might be races further north of 70 degrees now. This was not possible with the old global GFS data. How about a race to Longyearbyen? The quality of data for the Baltic Sea is not effected. _/)_/)_/) The sea is lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to sail before I sleep, And miles to sail before I sleep.

	Awesome, the new hours are a bit more manageable than the previous times. At least for those of us in UTC -4. No more "2 AM trips to the bathroom". Hehehe! Approx. 0,6,12,18 local time is just great!! Cheers!!

	All right, Eddy... Way to go!!!! I still have one in the middle of the night. But the higher resolution and faster loading are wonderful news.

The Beagle in Mauritius 2024

And west, forever following the sun, the Beagle went once more to next explore Australia, but since online we already regularly race the length and breadth of that wee dinkum continent’s coasts, we will delay launching our Tall Ship Class B until the Beagle reaches Mauritius, which she did on 29 April 1836. Darwin explored the island and its coral reefs extensively. We’ll better that by sailing some 450nm to Reunion and back, for a better appreciation of this remote archipelago, inhabited mostly by descendants of French and English colonists and Indian convicts and political prisoners.

Kapiti Chetwodes Race 2024

For only the second time in SOL history, we have the pleasure of inviting you to the Kapiti Chetwodes Race, held in the Cook Strait region. Organised IRL by the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club from Wellington in New Zealand. The approximately 160nm long route, full of turning points, will take us from the bay at RPNYC around the islands of Somes, Kapiti and Chetwodes and back to the finish line at RPNYC. We have only a 26 ft Albin 79 yacht at our disposal. All this means that we will have a lot of fun, so fair winds!

Two Oceans Doublecross TIMED Race 2024

Our November Timed race takes us to Cape Town near where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. Our ride is a beautiful ketch, the Archer 78. Starting at Cape Town, we’ll round Robben Island, then head south to round Cape Point, up around Seal Island before heading north to round Dassen Island before returning to Cape Town. This is a TIMED race, so you may RE-REGISTER HERE to try again, after finishing a run. You will have 13 days and 11 hours to test your skill and decision making after the race opens.
