Between now and 1800utc on Monday, 12 July, practice racers are invited to make their way to:

which will be the start point for tomorrow's practice race!

Please post here all ideas for where we should race tomorrow!! :-D

N.B. The Mark boats are now all heading for the little island at 37.80 / 23.33 so they can take up positions if need be!

Second Ouzo Practice Race 18:00 UTC Tue July 13.
For the second race we will hold a rabbit start race (also known as a gate start).
Shortly after new weather is posted (apx 17:35~17:50 hours) I will post the course in chat (English...sorry I'm not good at any other language).
At near 18:00 I will leave the start buoy (Mark 1) on a starboard reach. 5 Minutes later I will turn back and reach back to the start mark on port tack (hopefully reaching the start mark at 18:10). At the mark I will haul in and go best VMG upwind still on port. At this point the race is on.
All the boats in the race will start by crossing my stern. They will all be on starboard tack.
I will maintain port tack till I reach lay line to the mark or to clear any obstruction. So if anyone sees any advantage in starting down the line they may do so. After I have tacked the start line is the line from Mark 1 to my tack point (because of the server delay in updating tracks this may appear to move for a couple of minutes).

I will start the course to as close to straight upwind as possible. After that at least one reaching leg, and anything else I can throw in and keep it close to 1.5 ~ 2 hours.

Oh yes:
Rule 18-- (a) No sniveling.

Rule 1 (1) (a)--Have fun.

This only confirms what I have suspected for some time now, the sol boat is faster than regular boats.

I accept the role as proposed & will preside over the next rabbit start to be held in 1 week on the Chi-Mac course at the usual time. (7/20/2010, 18:00 utc)

This will allow the race to be conducted during local daylight conditions.

The course will be an AC style format,
3 upwind/downwind legs, the distance between the marks to be determined by the available wind to allow the event to be completed in the desired nominal time.

For the first time since first hosting a virtual Vineyard in cooperation with Long Island's Stamford Yacht Club back in 2010, due to an operational calendaring error, Sailonline has missed the start of the real life race, the USA’s Labor Day weekend this year unusually falling across the turn of August. Silly SOL! So, a week late please join us anyway for a virtual rerun of Stamford’s iconic annual overnighter from their club line out the sound to Buzzard's Bay Light near Martha's Vineyard Island and back again, leaving Block Island to starboard.
