A 365 mile race in memoriam of the great Colin Archer and the ships he designed. From Lauwersoog, Holland to Larvik, Norway.
All info on http://www.camr.nl/

Nice boat would of course be a colin archer
Nice idea - I have emailed 76T to see if he can find a polar for an appropriate-for-SOL (modern) design based on Colin Archer's originals.

If you have such a boat in mind, do let us know!!

Methinks sailing the Fram would take a little too long??
I believe registration irl is open for a lot of yachts, so it doesn't really matter that much. the original would be a little slow, as you say. something like an x 46 cruiser/racer could give sufficient speed
oeps, geuss who perenkist s boatsitting :-)
Saw the list, the x 332 is a good classic cruising yacht i think
Perenkist - for a moment I thought we had got another SOLer interested!!

76T is going to see what he can come up with!

Between the two of you I am sure SOL will choose the right polar!!

oh btw, the race is sailed irl at 17 july 2010!
I noticed the IRL sail date.. sadly it won't be possible for us to race at the same time (there are also some "name" considerations to think of) but we will definitely do the race once we have the right polar etc.

As I am sure you know, SOL has to be careful when running races at the same time as IRL ones. If an IRL race has a big sponsor that has paid a lot of money for the privilege of associating its brand with the race, then SOL can find itself open to ligitgation, even though SOL makes no money from the process!!
I am well aware of that, found some old posts of you, even a letter about this. A shame, but sol has to deal with it. But it's great that the race will be run! Krimpvrij raced it two times irl, years ago!

Chinook Salmon - Canada to Andreanovs

A year after spawning in the upper reaches of the rivers of British Columbia, Chinook Salmon develop the age-old urge, so familiar to SOLers, to go to sea, heading for different parts of the northern Pacific Ocean. This race catches up with a particular school with an instinctive memory for the Andreanov Islands far west on the Aleutian Islands chain, as they depart the Salian Sea between Vancouver Island and the San Juans. It’s 2200nm and we’re taking the 60ft Trimaran, in the hope we can keep up!
