Board » General Discussion » Jumping back

Now I'm not a fan of jumping sli's but this morning I pre-empted the server update (and probably shouldn't). I passed just (literally just) inside Hvallatur mark in the Round Iceland. Within a minute I had dropped from P#77 before the turn to P#100 as I had not rounded the mark. I reversed and sailed back south past the mark, then north, no change in the "Hvallatur Pass NW" to "Rounded". I sailed south again past the mark, then north, no change. In the end I had to jump back across land inside the mark(fortunately I made the jump and was not stuck on land) then sailed west and then north to show "Rounded". Now I agree with putting the marks in the right place on land to stop cutting corners. I paid my penalty by dropping a good number of places but it seems crazy to me to have to jump back across land to get the right side of the mark. I would rather do a 720 if necessary on top of any penalty by loss of places but to jump back surely needs a change in the algorithms...I eventually sailed off in P#157....Comments welcome.
The only way to go back and round a missed mark is the way you came, otherwise your not rounding in the correct direction.IRL you have to go back in that manner as there is no provision for a penaly turn for a missed mark.
( Dont cut corners) :-)
Obviously, the solution is to make SLI jumps impossible. SLI jumping has indeed become more of an issue since the change of the rounding rules.
Victory, Jumping land does not occur IRL. I was not intending to cut the corner, just make a tight turn by timing the movement of the boat.

I agree with you Incognito, this does need looking at.
I was talking about going the wrong side of mark in general!!
Im pretty sure I know thaat you cant jump land IRL

Christmas to Christmas Island 2025

Two waypoints, start and finish, and between them 5827 NM of two oceans. Not much time if we want to sit at the Christmas Eve table. You will need to maintain an average speed of over 10 knots, maybe quite possible with this Maxi Trimaran, but prepare your vessel well and choose the best of the many possible routes. Hands up everyone who knew there were TWO Christmas Islands?! OK, maybe you have sailed this Sailonline course before... but it's time to get ready for the 2025 challenge of racing between Christmas Island in the Pacific to Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean! It also marks the conclusion of our prestigious Ocean Race Championship 2025. Please have fun! Fair winds!

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!
