Everyone is invited to join in a practice matchrace tonight, 15 March 2010... details as follows:

Time: 1930utc
Start: the SOL race start
Route: To/round Capri - to/round Ischia - To Capri
Finish: 40.56N 14.25E (corner of the N shore of Capri)

N.B. both roundings may be made left-about or right-about... your choice!!

This is, as always, an excellent opportunity to practise your SOLing skills!!

MATCHRACE COURSE CORRECTION - to/round Capri (your choice of left-/right-about), to and round Ischia to finish at 40.76N 14.01E on Procida!!!

By 2115utc the fleet was remaining pretty close together.. the rankings, based on DTG to the coast of Capri (centre) were:

By 2300utc the fleet was a little more spread out and was contending with quite shifty winds. Rankings again based on DTG in nm from the centre of the N shore of Capri were:

Halandrion ran ashore on the mainland so clearly has removed themselves from the matchrace.

Race Report at 0120z:

At this time most participants had left their fortunes to their autopilots.

They passed the southern point of Capri in this order:

1-Zero
2-Smo (very close to leader
3-Tazumaki/mk (together)

5-K1W1
...and, RC (reverse rounding,) Spookie, Sassy, newsartist (reverse also)

Still approaching after 'adventures' or late starts, Stoertebaeker, rdoorn, Glynnwi, croc, and 76Trombones.

With 14 boats, our largest Match Race field to date?
Fortunately, stoertebaker made a note of the results of those who made it to Procida - as follows:

Welcome to Liguria’s Rapallo, there where Zarathustra spoke - at length - to Nietzsche, for our first race of nine to celebrate all things Mediterranean - fickle winds, history and olive oil. A number of our races in this new Magical Mediterranean series will be partnership with famous real-life races, but this first race is pure fiction - 780nm in refurbed IMOCA 60s, past or through the Balearic Isles and on into the Alboran Sea, to a finish off Nador on the Maroc Mediterranean coast.

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Guam to Ouvéa


The third race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us southeastward now down the Pacific, from Guam’s Apra Harbour at 13.5 degrees North, back across the Equator to the glorious New Caledonian resort island of Ouvéa, on the edge of the Tropic of Capricorn at 20.5 degrees South.
