It is not the calc-load I am worried about but the definition of VMC. Read my last comment above. VMG has a more well defined definition.
...one of the guys behind the game...
I think it would make as much sense as the current VMG wrt wind. Both are useful in different ways.
Hi Erratic - but what if we are using the non-client version as is recommended?
Calcualte it yourself....
use your angle to the rhumbline (of whatever point you are sailing towards) instaed of twa...
How could it be implemented in the software, when there is no way to automatically tell which point on a map you are Sailing for... unless there are course marks or the developers also added a waypoint facility against which VMC is calculated, but to simple use the finish line would not make much sense (consider leg4 of VOR)

Zembu> standalone client / web client - both can calculate stuff like that the same way they can calculate the angle you are sailing to the wind.
im using the web client and the rhumbline is not there ......
a6km, we have the rumbline in there but I think I understand your question. You wan't the track line to follow the great circle, so it follows the shortest route more isn't it?

I have thought about this too and will bring it up when we discuss some new improvements.
I am a ex-admin of SOL who joins in from time to time.
How about Velocity to a waypoint that you set yourself on the client? Then it could be a headland, a weather feature or whatever
a6: I see rhumblines in flash client...

I dont see whats wrong with doing a few manual calculations? I think some are expecting the software to do too much for them... You can easily use the ruler tool to plot a rhumbline to whatever point you want and get the hdg to it, use the steering tool to get a few bs and headings, then plug a few calculations into your OS's calculator or a handheld one... simple

OK, being a programmer I have written a small Java tool to help me do this more quickly... But I still need to follow the above procedure to get hdg and bs, and input them to the program, so I dont really save myself all that much... Next on the list is to import polar data...

Perhaps SOL could create a place where users can share their own, handcrafted software tools?
