Page: Previous 1 2 3 4 Next

Good morning Kypper and all.

Starting with “GeoData”, pls have a look on this link: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/
index.html#/What_is_geodata/019r00000002000000/

Now the qTVlm config files.
Probably if you want to make #2 equal qtVlm routers (with the same configuration) on two different PC machines you should export more than the “poiReal.dat” file.
Open Explorer, go to “C:\Program Files\qtVlm” and, click on the “Date modified” option to order the files presentation from the newest to the oldest.

The files you need to copy from machine “1” to “2” are the ones that are more recent (the ones you changed to customize your qTVlm), namely.
In the example from my qTVlm briefcase - see attached picture - I would copy the following files (to the second PC “C:\Program Files\qtVlm” location):

1 - qtVlm.ini;
2 - boatAccReal.dat;
3 - poiReal.dat;
4 - qtVlm.ini.sQS784;
5 - boatAcc.dat,

and also the complete “polar” and “grib” briefcases.

Recommendation: Always, always, always make a backup of each “C:\Program Files\qtVlm” briefcase in each machine, before doing anything in those locations.

Good SOL sailing!

Viva all.

I've tried the last two qT versions and my feeling was: we are all beta testers.

Well, I don't mind play that role but with something that works.

As soon as you connect the GPS both qT versions crashed.

Time lost to rolback to the last (still with the compass awfull bug) version.

Predicting now, If I may, qT in a near future is not going to sail with me.
Sail Fair.
I,ve posted this in the "Technical Discussion" and now here:
"Anybody else but me having problems with the new 5.2.5 QTVLM. I am trying to use the new possibility of connecting brainaid's proxy directly to qtvlm, but it crashes every time I start the GPS. This option worked in 5.2.3.
Any answers to that?"
When I connect via Fransons GPSGate it's the same problem: Every time I click on "Start GPS" QTVLM 5.2.5 crashes.
Please help me out :-)
Viva Bimmer.

I've tried two different methods for connecting the GPS to qT (Franson and NavMonPc).

Both failed with the last two qT versions (5.2.3 and 5.3.5) as qT, after establishing the mentioned connection, immediately crashes.

Both methods work well with the qT 5.2.2 version in my OS (windows 7, 64 bit).

Till better opinion I think the problem is qT itself.
Sail Fair.
I need to say that I've got it working on 5.2.3 with the "direct" option where you can bypass NavMon and GPSgate.
It was DIKKEHENK that told me how to do it :-)

I have attached 3 screenshots of my setup in 5.2.3

I'm running with Windows 10.

My internet connection is direct.
I can not figure the need of a proxy over a local IP-address unless installed like with brainaid's nmea-proxy.
Maybe it works too if in qtvlm you set internetconnection to 'direct connection to internet'?

And what is coming in through com:2? (You got it activated in the GPS jpg)

Thank you for your help & infos.

I've managed to install (again) the qT version 5.2.3.
Beta tester is this ... and, succeeded to get qT working with the GPS, without crashing, using the config you brought to us (thank you also Robbie).

Pls see attached pic for a test on routing.

Good news !!
Together with "maitai", an admin in QTVlm, the problem with 5.2.5 is solved and here is a guide:

1. First of all, delete your present 5.2.5 and download the new 5.2.5 patch 1 here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/qtvlm/

2. Under qtvlm/Configuration you can do almost what you want, BUT NEVER TOUCH THE GPS NOR INTERNET settings!!!!

3. Under "Boat/Boat settings you set it up exactly like the attached file shows you!!!

4. Get brainaid's NMEA Proxy up and running.

5. Click on "Start GPS" and...VOILA

Good Luck and please get back here and tell how you're doing.
All comments are MORE than welcome. :-)

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
