Hi eevery body.
I have downloaded qtLVM router, registered in LVM web.
When I try to place a mark with a Real boat ,the program sends an error message and closes. Any idea how to correct it?.
Or any other router sofware.
Unforntunaly my PV it i sa bit old Windows XP, 34 bits.
Thanks Royagui
Hi Royagui,

You shouldn't have to register on the VLM website when you use QtVLM with a "real" boat (instead of a VLM boat).

Can you read the error message, or does the program close too fast? I'd be very helpful to find out what the error message says.

I know a couple of other routers but QtVLM is a very good one (at least for virtual sailing it is), don't give up on it just yet :)
Whats the method to get your SOL yacht to feed positions into QTLVM? Found the TCP/IP proxy from brainaid, but it looks like QtLMV only supports serial. Is there a tool to emulate, and can it be done? Thanks

I use the Franson GpsGate 2.6 program, namely, for sending NMEA data over TCP/IP to qTVlm, (http://gpsgate.com/support/client_users_guide).
It has also other useful functions.

Next one for our experts out there. What's the technique to add a second real boat to qtLVM? All I seem to be able to do is delete my existing boat. Thanks
I've tried that once. QtVLM seems to have some options for multiple boats, but I couldn't get it to work, so I used the method some other QtVLM user was using: installing multiple instances of QtVLM... I'm not sure how (if at all) that works with NMEA data and ports and all...
Viva kipper and Huib.

QtVlm dosen't allow more than 1 "real boat" sailing at the same time. Anyhow it permits to have "n" different boats ("n" different boats polar data) but all with the same name.
So the AIS function dosen't work for following the other boats. Only your own boat via the TCP/NMEA link.

With OpenCPN you have both options. A routing prog to look for.

Be well.
Sail Fair.
I notice qtLVM can load marks in ZyGrib or GeoData format. Anyone know what these formats are. I use two computers in different locations and want to be able to load my marks into each one through a single file.I can't seem to find a reference to what the file looks like

Thanks in advance
Just found poiReal.dat which appears to store all the POI's. I think I can maintain a master copy on one computer and overwrite on the other.
Just tested copying poiREAL and works - it also contains the routes and barriers which is a bonus.

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
