Hi SOLers !! ;)

Here they are ! …The 2015 SAILONLINE YACHT CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS !

reading the attached NORs you will discover that there are some important news in 2015 :

1) The four classic Championships will be run with some different approach as to number of races and discards :

OCEAN CHAMPIONSHIP ( OCCH ) – BEST 7 races OUT OF 8 ( 2 races per quarter )

SYC CHAMPIONSHIP ( SYCCH ) – BEST 10 races OUT OF 12 ( 1 Race per month – same as in 2014)

SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP ( SPRCH) – BEST 18 races OUT of 24 ( 2 races per month but in different weekends - and 2 more discards allowed)

TIMED CHAMPIONSHIP ( TRCH) BEST 10 races OUT OF 12 ( one race per month that will stay open 16 days )

2) We are introducing QUARTERLY CHAMPIONSHIP RANKINGS within the Classic ones , to allow new entrants to have an early opportunity to compete. The Quarterly Championships will be ranked without discards available. The Ocean Quarterlies will include a third race that will not account for the yearly Championship. In recap of Quarterlies :

OCEAN – BEST 3 OUT OF 3 for each quarter
SYC - BEST 3 OUT OF 3 for each quarter
SPRINT - BEST 6 OUT OF 6 for each quarter
TIMED - BEST 3 OUT OF 3 for each quarter

3) And finally we introduce the SUPER_SOLER CUP , to recognize the endurance of those SOLers who race in all Championships. The CUP will be assigned to the SOLer with the BEST 50 OUT OF 56 results within the CLASSIC YEARLY Championships.

I like these changes. It was becoming almost a full time job to be competitive in the Ocean Championship.

The idea of the quarterly Champs for those who can do all of the races is also nice.

The adventure continues as we launch the next to last leg of the RWW series. This leg takes us from Marion Island to Fernando de Noronha, an island in the world heritage archipelago with the same name, 220 nm off the coast of Brazil. This race doubles up as #7 of RWW and #10 of OCCH. A 4400 nm journey of endurance, strategy and pure adrenaline. The RWW series is as whole, part of the 2025 ocean championship. Welcome to Spain for our first sprint of Q4. This is a traditional 20 NM local race around Huelva in SW Spain. Chances are a quick circumnavigation will involve some upwind work weaving your way round the mud flats of the upper reaches of the Huelva delta in our Fox 9.50. Fair winds!

Camel or Balloon - Khartoum to N'Djamena


As there is a lull in the calendar, your PRO has decided to risk an experiment – a balloon race over land, using a workaround to eliminate the recognition of water/land transitions. If it fails, the server may crash, and we abandon PDQ, hopefully after leg 7 of the ABS race to Suez has been decided, and before the start of the 1st OCC of Q4. Camel or Balloon – c 1000 nm from a field on the north bank of the Blue Nile at Khartoum to a field on the north bank of the Chari River at N'Djamena!

Africa by Sea 2025 - Mogadishu to Suez


Nearly there; only 2500nm to go, round the Horn and up the Red Sea to Suez into what will more than likely be more headwinds for this sixth leg of our African circumnavigation, to be followed in September by a final sneaky dash up the canal back to where we started all those months ago. We’ll be sailing a not entirely appropriate-for-upwind-work 60ft Trimaran!
