Board » Technical Support » Random course changes

I have been playing for some time on this site, recently my yacht does random course changes without instruction, I am aware of delayed course set-up and this is not the problem, I have just watched it do it right now, while sailing in a straight line the yacht suddenly did a 90 degree change of course which then reduced performance, I immediately returned it to the right course further reducing performance, why does this happen? worse when I've sat and worked out where I want to go only to find when I return to the game my yacht's decided to go somewhere else. Any ideas?
moocher - as you probably have gathered (from reading chat in various races) I am not a developer, but this problem was encountered a while back by one of our USA SOLers. The problem didn't last long and was, I recall, thought to be associated with some kind of Flash issue.

I am really sorry not to be more help right now, but I will try and find the comms relating to that previous problem.

What I can suggest is that you check you are running the latest version of Flash. You do this by right clicking on the race screen and selecting About Adobe, if you have the latest version then it will tell you.. if you need to update it wil tell you.

The other thing that usually solves any short-term issues for me is a really good browser clean - include cookies! - and then restart the browser.

Hope this is a bit of help and/or the problem doesn't persist!

Hi RainbowChaser,

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply, I do believe I may have discovered what the fault was/is (me) I will explain to you anyway because I am sure other people will encounter this or have done or will do and post the same problem, basically I think what has happened is that I have set a timed course change and returned to the game before it has taken effect thus I have removed the instruction from the delay and made minor course changes, then reset a further timed course change, However, I did not click onto the small clock icon before where I have found the instruction still set and it takes effect and the set time initially given, I think this may have been the cause but not certain.

Cheers

Mooch
Hiya Mooch - ah, yes, the old "forgotten DC" bug... its bitten all of us at least once and some of us a lot more often.

I don't set many DCs but I have trained myself to (mostly) check/refresh the DC tab as soon as I log in to a race.. even before clicking on the chat tab. Then I know that all is clear for whatever I end up choosing to do vis-a-vis steering/course changes thereafter.

Easier said than done.. I know some folks put a small yellow Post-it on the top RH of their computer screen as a reminder!!

:-)

Red Eye - Hobart Convict Run 2026

Back in 2010, one of our SOLers of the first hour, AUS_Scott76, came up with this ‘Convict Run’ out from Hobart, past Cape Raoul and the penal colony of Port Arthur, round Tasman Island, up and back down the east coast of Tasmania, to finish with a tight technical run – so Scott called it – up the picturesque D'entrecasteaux Channel, home to Hobart once again. It’s 250nm, ideal for a bit of ‘Red Eye’ in comfortable Finngulf 43’s, and if the original idea was to pick up some convicts on the way for a bit of R&R and sea air, you may always drop’m back before returning to Hobart!

New Ice Age 2026 - Longyearbyen to Browerville

Although we have by no means exhausted the possibilities of ice boating on lakes at high latitudes or high altitudes, it was noticeable that as our 2025 Series progressed, there were calls from time to time for longer-distance challenges, and so in response to these calls we will pretend that global warming has reversed and as a result the coastal waters of Antarctica and Russia and Canada have fully (and smoothly!) frozen over offering us the possibility of a 4-race New Ice Age series in our trusted no-PL DN machines. Our first leg takes us 2600nm from Svalbard’s Longyearbyen east to North Alaska’s Browerville. You’ll be a few days on the ice, so dress warmly and take some provisions; go!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Robinson Crusoe to Galapagos

Welcome to our first race of a new series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones, this first race taking you north from south of the Tropic of Capricorn to the Equator-straddling Galapagos, home of magical iguanas and other exotic fauna (but no mythical kings, Dory) Departing from the island where in 1704 adventurer Alexander Selkirk inspired Daniel Defoe to write the best-seller "The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe", by debarking off the unsound "HMS Cinque Ports", four months before she foundered off the coast of present-day Colombia, we will sail the 2200nm in our decidedly sounder and faster than the " Cinque Ports",
