SOL race?

Pakistan to Kamcatcha via the Capes...

--- Last Edited by Colin Hammond at 2013-08-18 13:29:35 ---
This looks interesting! Just the other day 76Trombones and hmm and a couple of others were talking about a long race ... perfect timing!!
How about an AC72 polar:
http://forums.sailinganarchy.com/index.php?showtopic=147158&page=4

22 knots upwind and 44 down ...
when do we start ?
Ha, can't wait for this race :)
Would be a lot less painful to do it at least in part downwind from Russia to Pakistan.

That AC72 polar looks good for this one.
Would be good if someone would take on the responsibility of preparing a kmz or, at a minimum, the coords :-)
here some markers :

From the south coast of Balochistan province somewhere near Port of Karachi, Pakistan (25°25′N 66°25′E) across the Arabian Sea, south-west through Indian Ocean, near Comoros, passing Namaete Canyon, near the South Africa coastline, across the South Atlantic Ocean, then west across Cape Horn, then north-west across the Pacific Ocean, near Easter Island, passing the antipodal point, near Amlia island, through the South Bering Sea and ending somewhere on the east-north coast of Kamchatka, near Ossora (59°38′N 163°24′E). This route is almost 32,000 km (20,000 mi) long.(Map from gcmap)

And I agree with dana, from .ru to .pk would be nice, windwise.

I think the winds would be more favorable traveling east, from Kamcatcha to Pakistan. There is a reason that most round the world races go west to east.
Would it be ok with this for the route?

Great Bear Ice Race 2025

You can fly to Great Bear Lake Airport, but if the ice is good, instead hire a pick-up truck, load your disassembled DN into the cargo bed and drive, first following the McKenzie River north, and then straight across the lake to the start of our final Ice Boat series race of roughly 100nm in length. The Airport authorities have agreed to leave all lights on, so you should just about be able to see where you are going as you zing and rumble, PL-free over the ice!

Christmas to Christmas Island 2025

Two waypoints, start and finish, and between them 5827 NM of two oceans. Not much time if we want to sit at the Christmas Eve table. You will need to maintain an average speed of over 10 knots, maybe quite possible with this Maxi Trimaran, but prepare your vessel well and choose the best of the many possible routes. Hands up everyone who knew there were TWO Christmas Islands?! OK, maybe you have sailed this Sailonline course before... but it's time to get ready for the 2025 challenge of racing between Christmas Island in the Pacific to Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean! It also marks the conclusion of our prestigious Ocean Race Championship 2025. Please have fun! Fair winds!

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!
