22 September 2024

For the ninth year, Sailonline is thrilled to be partnering with Denmark’s Svendborg Amatør Sejlklub for the annual and demanding inshore race circumnavigating the Danish island of Funen—the "Silverrudder - Challenge of the Sea". Since its inception in 2012, this race has grown to become the world’s largest single-handed yacht race, testing the endurance and skill of sailors from around the globe.

This year’s participant list showcases a strong turnout, with 421 boats preparing to take on the challenge. Among them, Sailonline’s own Seascape 18 solo polar will be in direct competition with the real-world fleet of Seascapes and Beneteau First 18s, providing a thrilling simulation for our virtual sailors.

Sailonline’s race will open for pre-race practice on 16 September at 08:30 UTC and will begin alongside the real fleet on Friday, 20 September 2024 at 08:30 UTC.

Halifax to Hooper Bay 2024

And now it’s Autumn in the Arctic, the sun is permanently below the horizon, but during the day, from c 0900 to c 1700 local time, there is some twilight – nautical twilight, not to be confused with civil twilight which is brighter. Having receded all summer, ice is starting to return to the numerous straits and bays of Canada’s North West Passage. High time then to set off on our last leg of the High Latitudes Series from Halifax in Nova Scotia to Alaska’s Hooper Bay. It’s 3850nm and we need to hurry, so we’ll take the Pelagic 77!
