Commentary
In reality, the Van Isle 360 is a race in several parts, but in recent years Sailonline has made this into a single circumnavigation course which truly does test all who race it seriously. Most SOLers choose bunk-time and make the race a sight-seeing event and there is ample wilderness to observe, especially if you take advantage of Sailonline’s Google Earth fleet overlay (available in every race). Inshore of Vancouver Island, B.C., on Canada's western coast. there is some spectacular sailing possible, while offshore, the formidable currents and weather systems can make things very challenging indeed.

This year, Sailonline’s choice of boat for the race was a Dufour 40

Some SOLers don’t mind what boat or conditions they are dealt, they simply out-perform the vast majority of us and gain the podium. Whether SOTP (Seat-Of-The-Pants) Corinthian-style or seeking guidance from a router, all is grist to the mill of those who push themselves to excel on our brilliant navsim platform. Our podium three, who battled and gained the top honours this time are to be congratulated. Well done guys! Read the reports linked above to see how two of our podium tackled the race.

Race name change:
Following a request from the Canadian authorities, we had to change the race name from "Van Isle 360 2020" to "Sailonline's Race Around Vancouver Island 2020" to avoid incitement with an IRL event, and this will probably be the name of this race in the future.

New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station

To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Tenerife to Fernando de Noronha

The sixth race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us back up the Atlantic to Tenerife, from whence we will depart on a classic transatlantic passage to Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha. It’s 2150nm as the albatross flies, but you will undoubtedly have to take some and sometimes sudden detours to get your Volvo 70v4 through the doldrums stretching across your path from the Amazon to the Niger.
