1 April 2014

Introduction
The Mount Gay Rum Gosford to Lord Howe Island Race (G2LHI) is organised by the Gosford Sailing Club of New South Wales, Australia. The 2014 event is the 40th running of the event and SOL is delighted to be "buddied" with GSC to run the event along side the real life race again this year.

Welcome to all Gosford yachties and their friends and relos to this very special virtual race!

A unique feature of the actual G2LHI race is that the organisers must limit the fleet to around 20 yachts. This is due to the strict mooring restrictions in the lagoon at Lord Howe Island. Mooring depths vary as well, so the fleet must cover a wide spectrum from 30 footers to maxis. A further restriction is the limit of 400 visitors to the island at any one time, which includes yacht crew as well as regular tourists. For these reasons, the 2014 racing fleet is comprised of just 11 yachts. They are the form yachts in their class in this season's fleet from various clubs, chosen from a long list of applicants. This year's fleet ranges from 35 footers to a VO70. The fleet includes the boat SOL raced against last year, the local TP52, "Frantic". Frantic is owned and skippered by former rugby international, Mick Martin.

The race is a Category 1 passage race and the weather could be either steady trades or a low coming down from the north as the tail-end of a late season tropical cyclone.

The SOL race in TP52s will start @0200utc on Saturday, 5 April.

New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station

To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Tenerife to Fernando de Noronha

The sixth race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us back up the Atlantic to Tenerife, from whence we will depart on a classic transatlantic passage to Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha. It’s 2150nm as the albatross flies, but you will undoubtedly have to take some and sometimes sudden detours to get your Volvo 70v4 through the doldrums stretching across your path from the Amazon to the Niger.
