SOL RESULTS

GRATTIS atlet!!! FELICIDADES rafa!! CONGRATULATIONS GnT!

Very many congratulations to SOLer atlet for his second win of this race - he took top podium spot in 2012 - that really is a good record to hold, so let's see if you can make it a hat-trick next year! This year's race saw light conditions all the way, ensuring that the best time-on-course from 2011 of 19h 41m 18s was nowhere near being beaten. The light and fickle conditions in the Hauraki Gulf really split the fleet to start and it was only after Opito that we could all just head for "home".

Open Country did well, having the advantage of the tides and currents out of Auckland, and judging by Short Handed PHRF and Overall PHRF the race organisers think so too!! No doubt we will hear from our boys in due course but, in the mean time BRAVOOOO Wairua and Yakka!!

INTRODUCTION
SOL is back in New Zealand again this time to run the 2013 International Yacht Paints Auckland to Tauranga Race (start time 27 March @2100 = 28 March @1000 NZDT) and for the first time, we are delighted to announce that we are buddied with the official race.

First run in 1921, this is one of New Zealand's classic races - a brief history of the race is readable here

This year, SOLers NZL_WairuaExpress and NZL_yachtyakka are going to be sailing Wairua's Beale 35, Open Country, and her progress will not only be visible via her own Spidertrack tracker but she will also be displayed as a boat on the Race screen. No doubt we will also receive regular updates from onboard during the race from journo Yachtyakka!

For this 124nm race, SOL will be sailing Farr 38s.

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara

Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!
