CONGRATULATIONS batchg!!! FELICIDADES rafa!! CONGRATULATIONS victory!

The first of this year's trio of Simrad races saw a fairly small group start, but it became clear almost immediately that this was going to be a hotly fought contest. With some SOLers falling by the wayside, the leading group stormed ahead and the finish was so close that the top 9 all arrived within a minute of each other. The winner won by 10secs and there was just 1sec between 2nd and 3rd. A combination of nerve and good tactics led our top three to the podium. Well done!

RACE INFO

It is time for SOLers to take a break from the European summer racing season and head back to the other side of the globe where we are warmly welcomed by our virtual partners to the 2012 SSANZ B&G; Simrad triple series - the biggest short-handed race and the second biggest keelboat race in New Zealand.

Raced over 50nm (14 July), 60nm (11 August)and 100nm (8 September) the three races start from Auckland, on New Zealand's North Island, and race around the Hauraki Gulf. This year SOL will again be sailing Young 11(mod) boats which will keep us competitive with the bulk of the longhaul fleet. Our polar is that of yacht Fineline

At least two SOLers are entered this year - NZL_PaulR will be on Panacea, a 41-year old wooden Stewart 34, and NZL_Yachtyakka will be on Promise, a more recently built GRP Stewart.

WINNER PRIZE Fineline Yacht Racing will be awarding a first prize of a Fineline Tee Shirt.

New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station

To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Tenerife to Fernando de Noronha

The sixth race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us back up the Atlantic to Tenerife, from whence we will depart on a classic transatlantic passage to Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha. It’s 2150nm as the albatross flies, but you will undoubtedly have to take some and sometimes sudden detours to get your Volvo 70v4 through the doldrums stretching across your path from the Amazon to the Niger.
