30sep11: The team from Friskolen Osterlund are sailing with boatnames prefixed with FRI_.

Mention the name “Denmark” and most people think “Copenhagen” but from the Atlantic to the Baltic, the islands of this small country and its welcoming inhabitants offer so much more. Two islands, Als and Fyn, in particular are the home of some tricky sailing – especially since the building of bridges to join together the land masses of Denmark – and of Friskolen Osterlund, our hosts for this race.

Starting from Dyvig Marina, we will sail into the narrow Alssund to Sonderborg, across Lille Bælt, to the tricky waters south of Fyn. Up Store Bælt, passing under Denmarks biggest bridge, to Fyens Hoved and Strib Lighthouse. Then through the narrow Snaevringen, where Lille bælt starts we reach the final straight ending at the finish line between the northernmost point of Als and the little island of Barsoe.

FRI_Hawk54 and his students will be sailing hard to maintain the honour of Friskolen Osterlund and in honour of their efforts, Sailonline will arrange for the top finishing FRI_ team member to receive a brand new SOL baseball cap from the Sailonline Store.

New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station


To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Tenerife to Fernando de Noronha


The sixth race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us back up the Atlantic to Tenerife, from whence we will depart on a classic transatlantic passage to Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha. It’s 2150nm as the albatross flies, but you will undoubtedly have to take some and sometimes sudden detours to get your Volvo 70v4 through the doldrums stretching across your path from the Amazon to the Niger.
