Tough going! ******************************************* UPDATE:03mar11:0930utc: SSANZ has indicated that the IRL boats will have a minimum 48hr stopover in Napier and the start of Leg 4 will be a mass start, probably on Sunday in NZ. ******************************************* Congratulations! The finishing times were: NZL_Undercover - 25h 36m 51s Chila -25h39m 44s GnT - 25h 40h 17m We didn't beat the IRL Leg winner and for these results and more info click here. ******************************************* UPDATE: 02mar11:1010utc: Because of concerns about missing the Leg start we have set up a poll to decide on what we should do for SYC members ranking. Here it is! ******************************************* UPDATE: 02mar11:0355utc: RC just now learned of delayed IRL Start by which time the SOL race was underway - IRL boats will have benefit of local wx so this could be an interesting "matchrace" between SOL and IRL race!! ******************************************* AHOY SOLers!! Just heard from SSANZ - Leg 3 will be starting at 0200utc tomorrow, Wednesday, 2 March 2011. Better get all your final preparations done.. there isn't much time!!! ******************************************* UPDATE:01mar11:0915utc: The Leg 2 prizegiving was held this evening in Wellington but thus far, due wx, there has been no indication when Leg 3 might start. A message received from Wairua/OpenCountry last night is now posted in the Forum here *******************************************

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara

Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!
