12 June 2011

![IMSYC 12 June 2011](http://www.sailonline.org/static/var/sphene/sphwiki/attachment/2011/06/12/IMSYCDayPicSMALL.png) Sunday, 12 June: Four and a half days out of Barcelona, and the mixed fleet has settled in with the lead boats sailing 7.1 kn average VMC toward Brest - impressive considering both course and conditions! The forecasts have been remarkably consistent so far, perhaps the Bay of Biscay can throw in a few surprises, but so far it looks like a leisurely 12-15 kn downwind finish most of the way after rounding Cabo Prior. The top 3 classes have shown good pace and judgement, and quite even performance, with only 90nm between their leaders (~0.8kn difference in avg VMC), now sailing up the Portuguese coast, west of Porto. Many of those chasing seem undecided whether to hug the coast or leave the rhumbline in search of more pressure, with a few on either extreme some were caught out on a TWA course when the blocking high hit - but it wouldn't be SOL without a few curly tracks around conditions like those. Of the other classes - all well represented, with around 20 boats average flotilla size - most are very closely matched, with only 25nm or so spreading the leaders of 5 classes - good racing across the entire fleet! This reporter thinks he may even have spotted a certain designer sailing their own boat ?? - and not doing half bad either! ************************
![Designers](http://www.sailonline.org/static/var/sphene/sphwiki/attachment/2011/05/25/IMSYC2011.png) ****************** AHOY SOLers!!! We are once again invited to team up with the hard working and excellent naval architect students of KTH who have been designing and preparing their individual boats for competition. PLEASE make time to review the 11 individual boat details [here](http://flygmac7.flyg.kth.se/~msy/imsyc_2011). before making your choice - it is your duty to do your best by the design you pick!! The boats are optimized for this year's route from Barcelona to Brest in June, within the International Marina System Challenge (IMSYC-66) rule. The design philosophy is declared in a design report limited to 3 pages on each boat. Your decision will be crucial for success!! To help you make a truly informed decision (unless like some you just choose a boat on the basis of its name!!) all the necessary information, design report, polar diagram and polar txt file, is findable [here](http://flygmac7.flyg.kth.se/~msy/imsyc_2011). Good luck!! PLEASE NOTE there were a few boats registered as VO70s - these have now been deleted (apart from the sol boat) so if you were one of these, you will need to re-register for the race and choose one of the 11 being raced!! ***********************************

Port Huron to Mackinac 2025

First run in 1925, the race from Huron to Mackinac is considered to be the world's longest consecutively run freshwater sailing race. Let's go - 260nm in X-362 Sport's awaits!!
Throw away unnecessary ballast from your boats. Fresh water has less buoyancy, which means greater draft and greater resistance to movement, which means lower speeds, etc.😊

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!
