All SOLers are invited by Hotu Matua to join him on Friday in this beautiful part of Chile and together race your Seacarts 263nm through fabulous landscapes while experiencing the most extreme sea, wind and currents conditions. Chiloé means “Place of Seagulls” and is the second largest island of America, after Tierra del Fuego. The Chiloé Archipielago is made up of the "Isla Grande de Chiloé", The Big Chiloé Island, and many little islands, more than 40, with a total surface of 9.000 square kilometers. Two very different landscapes can be found in Chiloe. In the west the Chiloe coastline is rough and the big waves and strong winds from the Pacific punish the land. In the east, by contrast, the coast is much more attractive, with a lot of fjords and a peaceful interior sea. However, the climate in Chiloe is strange and it is not unusual to have fours seasons in one day. Many channels can be found surrounding the myriad of little islands and the currents can be ferocious. A characteristic of Chiloe is the great tide differences, of several meters between the low and the high tide. The people of Chiloe are very friendly and always give a warm welcome to visitors. They are very proud of the Chiloe culture, and the woodwork is famous. All the churches in Chiloe were built only with wood - even the nails were made of hardwood. No iron was used at all! Enjoy sailing in Chile!! This is what the SOL fleet might look like!! (pic of Chiloe Regatta)

New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station

To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Tenerife to Fernando de Noronha

The sixth race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us back up the Atlantic to Tenerife, from whence we will depart on a classic transatlantic passage to Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha. It’s 2150nm as the albatross flies, but you will undoubtedly have to take some and sometimes sudden detours to get your Volvo 70v4 through the doldrums stretching across your path from the Amazon to the Niger.
