Before this race was proposed, most of us probably only knew the name "Barentsz" in association with a body of water in N Europe (that's if we knew it at all!). The Barentsz Sea was named after a Dutch 16th century explorer, Willem Barentsz, who was born in Terschelling (the SOL Race Start point), Barentsz trained as a cartographer and assisted in preparing an atlas of S Europe but is better known for his attempts to find a North East Passage round the top of the world. SOL is racing to Spitzbergen/Svalbard and it was on the third attempt to find the NW Passage that Barentsz discovered this island in 1596 sadly he never returned, after getting stuck in the ice at Novaya Zemlya for some months he and others put to sea in small boats and only a handful survived. Years later, in 1853 the body of water formerly called the Murmean Sea was renamed the Barentsz Sea and 25years later the Dutch Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz was opened at Terschelling. If you want to check out the waters of the area look at the MIWB Webcam here And a webcam around the finish location can be found: here History lesson over so...enjoy the Barentsz Run in the knowledge that you will return to sail another day!!

Choosing amongst a myriad of brobdingnagian things was not my long suit, so when I had to select my culmination ten computer games, I was clearly faced with a challenge. After some reasonable (and I by way of indeed judgement through), this is the tabulate of games that I sensible of are notable to be mentioned in my cap ten computer games article. Lately, many people from playing video games on consoles such as Ps3 and Xbox 360 because of alluring games and the ease of use. Uncountable consoles involve with a better graphics index card that allows for deeper gaming experience. So does this at any cost the aim of PC gaming era? Plainly not. Computers gave birth to the video match industry. Opposite from the consoles, computers be experiencing been there instead of more than 25 years. All the years of experiences unite up to recovered games and it conveys the essence that pc gaming will be on all sides seeing that a hanker time. Stable today, computer gaming leads the gaming energy because most gamers are PC gamers. 3) Let loose’s start with some five irate birds and some unversed pigs. I cannot imagine my best ten computer games laundry list without this game. Angry Birds is a naked casual occupation, but who am I kidding? You unquestionably recognize what Fuming Birds is. And if you aren’t weary of of having played it on your android phone, iPhone, tablets, iPad, roku etc, you can also undertake the darn thing on your computer! 2) StarCraft Is it lapse that more than half of my cap ten computer games consist of strategy games? The unmodified cannot be said for consoles. PC games be contradictory because you actually have to ‘think’ and be adroit, notably in this design; Lead Craft. Individual aspects of the engagement such as motivation, technology, biology, and a effulgent mystery prevail upon this game one of the most celebrated physical days strategy game. This species of exciting and addicting engagement cannot be ground in consoles platform. The only in work to positive what I am talking upon is to play this stratagem, you are sure to understand then! Computer games are the beat games in the new-fashioned gaming era. Console games are good too, but wholly not as pleasing as ones I toy with on computer in my opinion. My heel of outstrip ten computer games may switch in the future as PC gaming exertion is immense and because of guaranteed, it resolution mould for decades to come.

Mad Max by Balloon 2026 - Across the Outback

Mad Max Rockatansky doesn’t get to go in a balloon in any of the Legends of the Wasteland, and the Wasteland is not necessarily the Outback of Australia, but Mel Gibson and film director George Miller indubitably are… of Australia, and ballooning as reconnaissance is a main feature of the Mad Max spin-off video game, so here goes: 1500nm in a balloon from somewhere on the edge of the Outback, Goondiwindi, to cross a finish line at Fitzroy Crossing, somewhere on the edge of the Outback!

Roma Giraglia Regata 2026

Our eighth race of nine to celebrate all things Mediterranean - fickle winds, history and olive oil – is another buddy-up; this one with the Circolo Nautico Riva di Traiano . Founded in 1984, as the new Traiano yacht Harbour neared completion, the Circola since then has developed into one of the major yachting competition centres in Italy, and next to the 450nm Roma per Tutti (which SOL buddied earlier in the year), the Roma Giraglia Regata is its other headline offshore event. First raced in 2005, the 210nm course takes competitors from Traiano to a rock on the inside of the Ile de la Giraglia off the northern tip of Corsica and back to the Italian mainland for a finish in the bay of Santo Stefano. We’re racing this one in our Class 40!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Masirah to Chagos

Having crossed, re-crossed and re-re-crossed the Convergence Zones of the Pacific and the Atlantic, we now face our second crossing of the Convergence Zone of the World’s third great equator-spanning sea, the Indian Ocean, taking us from the channel between Masirah Island and the Oman mainland to the Chagos Archipelago. It’s 1900nm and we’ll be sailing our very fine Archer 78, and won’t mention that both locations (of departure and arrival) are heavily militarized and the why’s and what next’s concerning that – mindful as always of SOL Netiquette.
