    Back to the scoring...

My suggestion is also to keep it simple but create a mechanism so that there's some incentive for all boats. Based on experience we can predict that our top SYC members will generally be taking most of the points for the first boats across the line. Setting SOL gates is problematic since it would create an difference with VOR boat and restrict strategic freedom to find optimum weather routing. It would be good to create more interest / competition down the field. So my proposal would be to extend points awarded to say first 20 boats across the finish line (30;25;20;18;16;15,14,13 etc). Award points for top 5 boats achieving most miles sailed in 24 hours on each leg. Award points for top 5 boats based on most places gained in one or more 24 or 48 hour SOLPowerPlay periods notified by SOL race control through email to entrants during race (helps maintain website hits for advertisers during long races!)

Just a few ideas to stimulate discussion

I have recently noticed a display problem in which the client graphics do not coincide with the cursor position. There seems to be a consistent displacement of around 5 mm on a 19" LCD display. I eventually tracked this down to a conflict between the client and Windows Aero. It was resolved by changing the display to Windows Vista Basic.

Hi Seafly - Newport/Bermuda would be great (anything would be great, actually ;O)). Adding s/ware vector to represent the GS would be way cool.

I'm suffering the same diagnosis of Sail Online Anxiety Syndrome (SOAS) as Xinanhook!

Typical symptoms of SOAS: restlessness; sense of dread that others may be competing in a race you missed; constant need to log in to sailonline.org to check for news; temptation to enter the VS Privateer race (again!).

I've tried the medicine of the RGS and St Malo but think I need something way more powerful like a Governor's Cup Cape Town to St Helena (1690 miles), or a Newport to Bermuda (690 miles) or how about the ultimate? A 16,400 mile circumnavigation of Antarctica (Antarctica Cup Ocean Race) in a Volvo 70, where the inaugural time of 102 days was just set.

Rapallo to Nador 2026

Welcome to Liguria’s Rapallo, there where Zarathustra spoke - at length - to Nietzsche, for our first race of nine to celebrate all things Mediterranean - fickle winds, history and olive oil. A number of our races in this new Magical Mediterranean series will be partnership with famous real-life races, but this first race is pure fiction - 780nm in refurbed IMOCA 60s, past or through the Balearic Isles and on into the Alboran Sea, to a finish off Nador on the Maroc Mediterranean coast.

Red Eye - Melville Island PYOC 2026

Melville Island is the largest of the Tivi group opposite the port of Darwin in the Timor Sea. Tropically forested and thinly populated, not a lot goes on there, but let’s race around it anyway, lar- or starboard round, it’s a little more than 120nm, so, no matter where you are navigating from on the planet, you will be hard-pressed to complete the course aboard your J-80 in daylight hours!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Guam to Ouvéa

The third race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us southeastward now down the Pacific, from Guam’s Apra Harbour at 13.5 degrees North, back across the Equator to the glorious New Caledonian resort island of Ouvéa, on the edge of the Tropic of Capricorn at 20.5 degrees South. It’s 2400nm, and there’s more than a few other islands in the way, so mind where you go in your Ocean 50s. Race #1981
