I thought we were supposed to start races at a reasonable time for the local Longitude of the race. The Hiroshima-Kure race is now posted to start at 6 PM local time. I have never in over 40 years heard of any race other than a short beer can race starting at 6PM.
What gives here?

Many races start in the evening, the RAYC White Island Race in November starts either 6pm or 7pm local time. Sol has run this race at least 3 if not 4 years in parallel.

Many of Aucklands off shore races (Gold Cup, Balokovic Cup, 2 Handed 3 Legged races etc. also start in the evening.

Likewise the RORC Channel Race starts in the evening IIRC, but my memory may be in error.

If the race starts at a local time, then Sol should start at EXACTLY that time as well, IMHO.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough!

Hi captjack - not sure if you saw my comment in chat but the race is starting as the Hiroshima Flower Festival ends - it isn't a real race so it was hoped that the start time would actually suit a lot of folks already on SOL and just might catch the eye of some Japanese!
