Board » General Discussion » A couple of small, but annoying problems with Forum..

1) I get way too many "spam emails" about posts to forum. This is because I have failed sometimes to remove the check in the "Notify me by email on new posts in this thread" box.
Why is this the default? Shouldn't it be opt in instead of opt out?
How can I stop all the spam short of blacklisting crew@sailport?

2) Every time I open Forum, there is a red folder on the General Discussion column. This is even though the are no posts that I have not opened. Why does this happen? Why do I need to spend the time to open the column, only to find no new posts?
If you click 'Edit Profile' to the left, scroll down and you will see a setting for 'Default Notify Me Value' - switch this to 'No' and then you will need to opt in, as you say, to receive notifications of new posts by email...

As for the 2nd one - I have never noticed this myself

Oh - and you can also turn off any threads you are currently receiving email notifications for at the same place....

Thanks Aaron,
wish it was possible to select all on the list of threads being monitored. At least I was able to remove all the most current ones.
:-)
Also, have you tried clicking the 'Catch Up' link at the bottom of the forum boards? That should clear the red icons...

I think, say there is a 4 page thread - if there is a post say on page 2 that you have not displayed yet, it still flags the whole thread as 'Not read' ?? That may be why some remain red when you feel you have actually read it (??)

Aaron, I tried going back through all the pages last year. No avail. Will try the "mark all as read". Guess I've never scrolled down far enough to see it.

Thanks again

:-)

The Vineyard Race 2025

For the first time since first hosting a virtual Vineyard in cooperation with Long Island's Stamford Yacht Club back in 2010, due to an operational calendaring error, Sailonline has missed the start of the real life race, the USA’s Labor Day weekend this year unusually falling across the turn of August. Silly SOL! So, a week late please join us anyway for a virtual rerun of Stamford’s iconic annual overnighter from their club line out the sound to Buzzard's Bay Light near Martha's Vineyard Island and back again, leaving Block Island to starboard. This year, Sailonline is making its magic MC 38 available to competitors, a race boat with a quirky polar that will require you to stay wide awake as you speed around the c 250 nm course, in rockstar style!
