Page: 1 2 Next

There has been a new client released. You will need to clear your browser cache to see it. Among the things listed below it is far smaller to download now, saving some data.

Some new features in the client:

Boat List:
You can now create 1 or more custom boat list. Below the boat list you will see a button marked for creating a new list. Clicking this brings up a window allowing you to provide a name for the list (required) and select the boats to be included in it. Click the boat in the list and click Add. The list of chosen boats appears on the right. NOTE: You can multi-select form this boat list, using ctrl or shift, and of course the search function works as usual.
Once you have your list (and you can change it after) click Done, and a new list appears along with the Main Fleet list. You switch between by clicking the header for the list.
A few other things you can do with these lists:
1) Multi select boats in them to see more than 1 boat track at a time
2) Click 'Show Only these boats' to hide all other boats in the fleet not on the list.
The Edit button brings up the same window as used to create a new one. You can modify the name of the list or the boats in it. You can make more than 1 list.

Also, in multi-class races like the TallShips or IMSYC there will be an extra column in the boat list displaying the class of each boat. You can sort on this column just the same as name.

The columns in the boat lists can be dragged to re-order them, and resized by dragging the column header borders.

Also note that currently the lists do not save between sessions.

Weather Slider:
The slider now displays a little more info, and has 2 new features.
It displays the amount of time left to the end of the forecast containied in the last update.
You can also now:
1) Switch between the slider covering the full forecast period at 10 minute steps, or only the next 24 hours stepping smaller for a finer look. To do this Alt-Click the slider or the text label below the slider.
2) Animate the weather! Shift-Click the same places as in 1) and the weather with begin playing as an animation. Shift-Click to stop.
Note you can combine 1 and 2, in that the anmation as just like automatic movement of the slider.

Also, you can turn off the weather notification sound effect , there is a checkbox on the Help tab (?)

Instrument Dashboard:
Can display Lat/Lon - Alt-Click anywhere in it to toggle the display on and off

MarkBoats:
Dont leave tracks and look like buoys

None so blind
Great, thanks so much
excellent improvements - many thanks to the machine room
There has been another client update - mostly a few minor fixes, but browser caches will need to be cleared for it to download...

Really an improvement !

1 thing is not good: After creating a boatlist - it is not saved for next session (as you have mentioned above). IF new boatlists could be saved, I shall rest my voice :-) (for a while)....
Just found the sound effect checkbox. I should have read AGage's notice much earlier!
Wonderful silence now…

ciao
Bernd
Saving of option(s) like wx sound, and any boat lists you may have created, is in the works...
Custom boat lists will be shared between races though...

Hello,
I did as you mentioned, cleared my browsers cache, but I still can't run a race. I come as far as "waiting for weather download" but no further. Any other proposals what to do?
Rgds/Hasseballad
I have a request for xmas that one +6h and one -6h button be added beside the weather slider.
I'd like to be able to quickstep forward while looking at the weather on the map. So easy to lose track of the shown time offset now.
Cheers!

Africa by Sea 2025 - Suez to Port Said

When Napoleon (briefly) occupied Egypt at the turn to the 19th C, he ordered his expedition’s Directeur des Ponts et Chaussées, Jacques-Marie Le Père, to evaluate the ancient, derelict, infilled course of a Ptolemaic canal connecting the Red Sea to the Nile via the Great Bitter Lake, versus a new canal to the Mediterranean directly. Neither were considered feasible – locks to climb a pauvre-surveyed 10m sea-level difference, or continuous dredging of the Nile, would both be equally financially prohibitive. Fifty years passed before the unlikeliness of Le Père’s survey finding was challenged and a French Compagnie Universelle du Canal Maritime de Suez obtained a 99-year concession from the Khedive of Egypt, Said Pasha, to construct and operate a canal from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, much against the will of the Ottoman Sultan, Abdulmecid I (the Pasha’s nominal overlord), and the wishes of the (Irish) British prime minister, Lord Palmerston. The year was 1859, the very number of this race (planning, dear boy, planning!), which, despite the canal’s double-super-tanker gauge and lack of locks, is strictly prohibited to sailors IRL. But not SOLers! 85nm in Fareast 28Rs to complete your circumnavigation of Africa!

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!
