I have seen that 68% would you like to participate in a teams based event.

keeping short:
RC: is possible to run a separate classification in the SWR for team/nation boat if many teams will be present?

all: anyone want to challenge ITA_2011 as defender for team class?

informative note: the ITA_2011 syndacate is discussing how to partecipate also this year, so who wants have still the time to organize the team(s)

More detailed information will be provided later by the Sir Winston.

These are MY open questions/thoughs
regards
Gilberto
Hello Gilles!!!

My Recruitment advert!!!

"I'm looking for Southern Hemisphere crew members for the Nations Team Race boat "Southern Cross" or similiar. Henrys(RSA) and Jawz(RSA) require one member in the south americas and another in australasia. Routing software experience and tools will be preferable"

Send email to gh.snoek@gmail.com
There are several "team boats" appearing in SOL from time to time and it reminded me of this thread, generated by Aaron back in 2011.

A Nations Cup series.... I think this would be fab.

Dear SRC - please will you consider this?
Hi Joanne, yes I agree in many ways. Also, one of the advantages of team boats over individual boats is that by picking team members from around the world, one is able to get some sleep at night on ones midwatch.

Hence another possibility might be a Teams Series.

I think a team competition could be a very interesting and fun race.

A Nations Team Race is more of a challenge for smaller nations (we are used to it anyway) due to the smaller number of nationals.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed greatly my only race with a team boat so I'm on board for any kind of initiatives around this subject.

When you think about it, a team structure is the more realistic approach to ocean racing. Sure, the mini-650s are solo and there are dual-handed classes in many other races, but boats in most real races have three or more people aboard.

One reason, of course, is that a real boat has many different things that need attending to. But another reason is that, for a race of any length, it makes sense to set a watch schedule so those aboard can eat and sleep as well as sail.

All of which brings up the issue of how national a 'national team' needs to be. Yank that I am, my first thought in putting together a team from the USA would be to recruit the best skipper and tac/nav I could find -- probably from Australia or New Zealand.
[Hey, it worked for Ellison/Oracle.]

So, I suggest that the flag a team sails under should be a matter of team choice -- but subject to limitations.

1) I'd like to think there was some logic in the choice of the flag. Perhaps I am naive here.

2) The SRC, in their infinite wisdom, may choose to host an event for strict national teams -- an Olympics of sorts.

But I would hope purely national events were the exception, not the norm..

Christmas to Christmas Island 2025

Two waypoints, start and finish, and between them 5827 NM of two oceans. Not much time if we want to sit at the Christmas Eve table. You will need to maintain an average speed of over 10 knots, maybe quite possible with this Maxi Trimaran, but prepare your vessel well and choose the best of the many possible routes. Hands up everyone who knew there were TWO Christmas Islands?! OK, maybe you have sailed this Sailonline course before... but it's time to get ready for the 2025 challenge of racing between Christmas Island in the Pacific to Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean! It also marks the conclusion of our prestigious Ocean Race Championship 2025. Please have fun! Fair winds!

Andaman Islands PYOC 2025

The Andaman Islands are an archipelago, made up of 200 islands, in the northeastern Indian Ocean. Together with the Nicobar Islands to their south, the Andamans serve as a maritime boundary between the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman Sea to the east. These waters will be the theater of our next 240nm race in the ARCH 2025 series. Which one you choose depends only on you, i.e. your Elan 410 sport will leave the Andaman Islands on the starboard or port side.

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!
