Board » General Discussion » ITA_2011 TEAM --- N E W S !! ---

At the end of the recent Asian sprint leg 1 it came clear through an outburst of complaints in chat that a sizeable part of the SOL Comunity is not prepared to trust the correct application of the rules ITA_2011 team syndicate had given to themselves. In particular it was felt as unfair that two Italian boats were leading to victory , one being the syndicate one . Explaining that the two boats were steered by two skippers who fought against each other for two days was not sufficient for some.

This led us within the ITA team to revise some of our rules , in order to accommodate the need of that part of the Community who can only trust facts and not Yachtsmen words.

This threads to inform all Solers of the changes we are going to adopt with immediate effect :

--- Boat ITA_2011 will participate ONLY to races classified as OCEAN , and when ITA_2011 is in the water ALL the 4 individual historical boats of the team will NOT race. Only transitional exception to this rule will be the finishing of Global Challenge ( legs 3-4-5-6) by Gilles , who will continue in the series doing his own race in a total solo mode ( this still needs to be trusted, but only for a limited amount of time )

--- In ALL other races if one or more of the original individual boats is in the water , then ITA_2011 will NOT race. If none of the individual boats is in the race ITA_2011 MIGHT be racing.

--- As summarizing rule in each and every race there will be EITHER ITA_2011 …OR one or more of the individual historical boats of our team.

--- The 4 individual boats of ITA syndicate are : ita10267 – Gilles – Ghibli – WINSTON_4.

We trust that by adopting these changes we have accommodated all the remaining needs of that part of the Community who expressed concern and dissatisfaction at the end of Asian sprint 1 , as much as we trust that there will be no more space from now on for lack of trust and doubt of fairness that some members of the Community have explicitly affirmed in that occasion . Should anybody be still unhappy , the only remaining possibility for us to accommodate their needs would be to SINK our boats …and the decision in that respect is …..NO !! ;)

Happy sailing to all

ITA_2011 TEAM
While I applaud your efforts to keep as many people happy as possible, if some people have trust issues, then TBH it will not matter what rules you set out and publish that you are going to follow, as it is not the rules themselves they feel unfair, but rather they aren't trusting that the 4 of you will actually stick to the rules you have set down for yourselves...

NOTE: I didnt actually read any negative chat, but this must be the case, not trusting that you are following your own rules.

And lets say we see WIN and Gilles in there... Next thing people will be complaining that "maybe those boats are being team raced also"...

Just race, and dont worry about what others think so much...

Bottom line guys: there will always be some unhappy competitors.

There are many who have no problem what-so-ever with how you guys are organising the ITA boat. Or Gilles (or any one of you) also sailing your individual boats.

As long as it is well known that ITA_2011 is a syndicate boat (which it seems to be) thats really all you can do. There will always be people who are unhappy or suspicous (or jealous) or whatever.

I dont see how they can complain much about performance since you all have excellent results as individuals!

Just to throw another spanner in the works, anyone interested in setting up an AUS syndicate? jhk? adam? GnT? Eclair?
;-)
Maybe we can get 8 people together to form an ANZAC boat? undercover? any other NZers?

Lake Ontario 300 Challenge 2026

Lake Ontario Offshore Racing (LOOR) welcomes Sailonline sailors to a second virtual version of a race in their annual series, and for the sixth year in succession the LO300. As the name implies, the LO300 is a 300nm offshore race across the length and breadth of Lake Ontario, from and back to Port Credit YC. This year, for the first time, we will be racing the 300nm circuit in Sun Fast 3200s. As usual, there is an overall prize for the SOLer who best bosses Lake Ontario over the two races hosted by Sailonline, this LO300 and the Susan Hood raced back in May, and this year also the race and the Susan Hood count towards the title of Super Buddy 2026; so, let the competition be fierce!

New Ice Age 2026 - Neumayer Station to Scott Base

For a second-half of long-distance ice-boating, we take our DNs to Antarctica for a circumnavigation of that continent in two legs clockwise, in harmony with the prevailing winds (such as there are), beginning with a race from Germany’s Neumayer Station to New Zealand’s Scott Base. It’s about 3500nm, which, if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!
