I am sorry if this has already been raised and discussed but is it too late to run this race again starting 26 December 2010. It has been run by SOL for a number of years and is one of the top 5 ocean races in the world. It is a good race for the Aussie SOL'rs. I guess it would be good to have a maxi yacht so we can challenge the IRL line honours race yachts.

I think we do sail but under the name Tasman Double.
It's on the calendar starting 0600 UTC on the 25th, which is... 1700 local the same day?

It's set up with the 90' mono. Alfa Romeo and Leopard aren't on the start list this year, but 2nd place Wild Oats XI and 4th Investec LOYAL (Maximus) are there as well as Wild Thing and Lahana.

We might want to switch to the Supermaxi to keep up with new boats. We matched up ok last year in the 90' though. The forecast winds are 20+ knots close reaching after a downwind start. Our polar for the 90'mono is actually a little (perhaps optimistically) faster upwind - the canting keel stretch version beats it on reaches and downwind.
Thanks for the info 76 and garganey. I should have looked up the SOL extensive race calendar. I was just expecting to see it coming up in the Next Race area and "what do know, voila", there it is this morning. Good to see you back on the race course 76, I watched you leading, then drifting thru the doldrums in the Xmas Is race, a good race with South group leading, then North group, then South group again and then the well south group looked to have a storming finish until the wind veered behind them towards the end.
The calendar does indeed say that the start is on December 25 - as quoted by 76Trombones above.

However, the NOR says the 26th. I'm assuming the latter is the correct date, or?

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!

Camel or Balloon - Khartoum to N'Djamena

As there is a lull in the calendar, your PRO has decided to risk an experiment – a balloon race over land, using a workaround to eliminate the recognition of water/land transitions. If it fails, the server may crash, and we abandon PDQ, hopefully after leg 7 of the ABS race to Suez has been decided, and before the start of the 1st OCC of Q4. Camel or Balloon – c 1000 nm from a field on the north bank of the Blue Nile at Khartoum to a field on the north bank of the Chari River at N'Djamena!
