Board » Technical Support » Delayed command starting

Page: 1 2 Next

As I understand it you can only do a delayed start within one hour of the actual start time due to technical issues of separating the practice race from the real race.

It would boost the starters in races if there was a way that we could put a delayed start time of up to say 8 hours for those of us living in the wrong time zone who need to wake up between 12 am - 6 am to make the start for many races. For example if a DC was put in during the practice race that was on or after the scheduled start time, could those DC's be kept when you close the practice race and go into the last hour before the scheduled start time. (suggestion from a non IT guy)
Cheers Peter - that's the way it works now :)

DC's aren't cleared on towback, so the only requirement to start on time is that the DC fires less than an hour to start-time. The best way to double check this is to set the DC and then use the "clock" menu to make sure that it is accepted.

10-15 min is a safe start.
Quick reply tks 76. OK so you confirming that I can put in a DC 8 hours before a start time to activate at the start time and it will not be cleared when the practice race is stopped and will carry over into the actual race. I will try in another race. I am planning to do the Atlantic race.
It does work like that, Peter. I've done it several times before. Set it to go off anytime in the last half hour, even many hours ahead of time, and it will work.
Great tks 76 and Hew, now I am clear, clever software, it respects the need for SOL'ers to get sleep.
I wouldn't go that far! I always need to change course at 3am it seems.
Usually I just run the weather slider up to .5 hour before the start. Then note the time ahead to the right end of the slider readout. That I enter in the DC box.

This can be done even days in advance. Assuming of course an open water start.

I would recommend not setting a Delayed Command for the start too close to the gun nor too close to the call back. Give at least a 10~15 min cushion after the call back and before the start.
Thanks Jack, good suggestion. I presume you can only enter one effective command in this time window, the system will only act on the earliest command so you couldn't organise a course change after that start before the race has started. What boat are you sailing?
Or use this:

You can enter a nearly unlimited number of Comands each of which will be executed to the second exactly at its time.
That will be the Case even in the special Situation one hour prior to the Start. But because of the boats didn't move, only the last Comand will have an effect on your boat.

It is posible to change given comands later on, though.
During the prestart-phase this can be done by simply setting a comand which is executed later than the wrong one, but prior to the Start.
In General you can go to the second tab on your client with the little Alarmclock on it and click the green Button. The client will then display all your comands with their action and their exact time. If you mark one of them and then hit the red Button, this one will be deleted.

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara

Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!
