Board » General Discussion » Scoring for DNS

Page: 1 2 Next

Guys, I thought you said if we register and don't start the race DNS, this would not go against our overall scores. Looking at the SYC ranking for me, several races where counted even though I didn't start. Sometimes I join a race to chat since I don't have time to make the race.

Jim
Your ranking is not affected differently on DNS and DNF. They are the same ranking-wise.

So Jakob, If I register for a 1000km race and don't start those miles are not added to my total miles and doesn't affect my ranking?
Correct. If 954 boats race that race and you do not you will get 954 points regardless wheather you register or not.

does this imply that you MUST FINISH every race or loose places to boats that did not start??? e.g.
boats_registered=954;
if (I_finish) my_ranking+=placement;
if (I_DNF) my_ranking+=boats_registered;
if (I_DNS) my_ranking+=boats_registered;
if (! I_register) my_ranking+=boats_registered;

im good for 1 and 3, but 2 and 4 seem a little harsh, and we should look for a way to provide the javaboat need of a "social racer". one who want to participate, but for one reason or another, cant allocate the time to race.

Your points for the race will be equal to your final position even if you don't finish. If you don't start the final points will be equal to the total number of participats.

So starting is always beneficial, regardless if you finish or not.
on the assumption that, at the closure of the race, you are closer to the finish then the DNS boats, yes???

is DNS ranking the same as DNR - did not register??

in a similar topic are DNS boats all assessed the same, or are they ranked somehow??? or is this just complicating a simple solution...

if registered ranking+=placement
if ! registered ranking+=number_of_boats

???

Problem I'm having with this DNS scoring is, sometimes I'm not in a position to race but would like to join in the chat and watch the race. There needs to be a way to do this without being penalized.
Okay, I repeat, you are never penalized for registering for a race. Even if you don't even register it will be counted in the ranking with the same penalty as DNS.
So another way to say it is that you are always penalized whatever you do, as life in general :)
