Board » Sailonline Yacht Club » DNF rankings

i have been on holiday and have not yet finished chicago race, i see i have a ranking DNF 363 for the race. i am going to finish the race in 4 hours or so and in the race i am ranked 374. I am not sure how this works, but does this mean that all boats that DNF get a ranking of 1 pt more than the last boat that finished, even though there are 700 boats in the race. It seems to me that if this is true, and it might not be, that it is pretty un fair for the last guy who made a effort to finish the race that all the others who dont bother come in right behind him. Surely DNF's should get a ranking of the total number of boats in the race. Other wise It would be possible if only 1 boat finished the race all the others would get a 2nd place
Hi Robert,

Thanks for your detailed report. Lets wait and see what position you will end up once across the line. It sounds indeed a bit odd that a DNF is lower then you current rank on your way to the line. We will look at it when we look into the scoring system again.

hi I am nakedgod in the game, not sure why not here too. any way i finished Chicago race ranked 371. I also did the cowes st malo race again and got a better time than my other run,
Thanks for your attention to this,
fine sailing on the french solo
A similar question. I am registered for the Fastnet race beginning Aug 9th. I will not be able to start the race until the next day, due to a family funeral and a 15 hr drive. Is it better to never start the race, or start way late yet finish, or somehow withdraw to save the high points?

DNS, DNF or somehow withdraw before start?
Hi

You should see your nickname here in the forum aswell... We have someone on it. NAturally you will not be punished more for DNF than for DNS.
