My present distance to the goal is 12211,1
The leader's distance to the goal is 11811,6, which means I am 399,5 behind
The measured distance between the two of us, using the measuring tool, is 278,3 nautical miles, which can't be true, especially as I am more beside than behind the leader. How is this possible?

It might be correct anyway :-) We measure distance to goal by measure shortest distance to next rounding first and then the distance from that point to goal. That usually works pretty well but in some cases are not 100% intuitive. Have faith :-)

But this time Jakob some more explanation is needed I think.
This morning, tuesdag 17/2 at 5.40 UTC, I got up and had 12040 nm to finish. The present leader had about 11580 nm to finish, and he/she was only some 20 nm to starboard. This boat was not even sideways in front but sideways behind me.
That needs some more explanation I believe.

First I cal the dist to rounding, then dist from that to finish. When we are soooo darn far from rounding and the pole is involved, the point of rounding is moving around. Take a globe and play around with it and you will see what I mean. :-) The calcs are ok, but the concept of dtg is ambigous at the moment. Be cool and things will start to make sense as we come closer to cape.

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Guam to Ouvéa


The third race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us southeastward now down the Pacific, from Guam’s Apra Harbour at 13.5 degrees North, back across the Equator to the glorious New Caledonian resort island of Ouvéa, on the edge of the Tropic of Capricorn at 20.5 degrees South. Iceland to the Falklands 2026

Welcome to an all-new route, the first of three Round the 'Old World' of Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. To give each leg of the ROW a bit of length we'll try to hug the coasts as little as possible, so starting in Iceland our first leg of the series, which will also be the final leg of our Quarter 1 Ocean Championships takes us 7200nm to the Falklands, the full length of the Atlantic end to end. To make sure we'll get it done within the month we'll be sailing our Maxi Trimaran.
