Board » Technical Support » Getting a grib from Saildocs

QUOTE
Now, those of us who route know that the gribs we can download from BrainAid are 7-day forecasts. If these won’t get you to your goal, it is not difficult to get a 14-day grib from NOAA, the same source SOL uses for our ocean races. Just send an email to query@saildocs.com that looks like:
gfs:45N,35S,81W,12W|0.5,0.5|0,3,…,360|

As you can see, it is in three parts:

45N,35S,81W,12W are the area co-ords
0.5,0.5 is the spacing of the grid for the grib (e.g. 0.5O latitud- and 0.5O longitudinally)
0,3,…,360 is the spacing and range along the time dimension (e.g. every 3hr to 360hr):

IIRC you also need to include PRESS,WIND at the end of the sentence.

Also, there should be no other content on the request mail. i.e. no signature line.
RC's solution worked for me without PRESS(URE) and WIND at the end. You just need to have no surplus spaces in the text.
You can also request a saildocs grib directly in qtVlm by selecting a zone and right-click. Many options are available in qtVlm->configuration->grib, and qtVlm will set the correct syntax automatically (which can be a bit more complicated if the requested zone includes the date line), and eventually send the mail for you. BTW next version coming soon will also have an option to request gusts.

Tobruk to Iskenderun 2026

Welcome to the fourth of our nine races across the length and breadth of the Magical Mediterranean Sea, and the second that is not in partnership with a real-life event, this time for good reason, which we won’t get into here. From Tobruk to Iskenderun it’s 670nm in length, with the added complication that the island of Cyprus will be in your way. Hoping, possibly forlornly, for plenty of downwind sailing, we’ll take the Lagoon 55 for the voyage!

Tasmania to Kamchatka 2026

Welcome to yet another all-new route. Tasmania to Kamchatka, part of our Ocean Championship and also the third leg of the ROW (Round the Old World) series. Be aware of the obstacles on the way, likely to split the fleet. It's like X:mas to X:mas, crossing the same waters, navigating the same archipelagos. This second race of OCQ2 2026 will be sailed in our revised 'version 2' Imoca 60 Foil. Race #2031

Regata dell’Accademia Navale 2026

Welcome to Sailonline’s partnership with the City of Livorno (Leghorn say the English) in cooperation with the local yacht clubs and the Italian Navy, offering all the online opportunity to race the famous Regata dell’Accademia Navale - 630nm in length. Starting and finishing in Livorno, this year the race takes you the length and breadth of the Tyrrhenian Sea via little Mortorio (Mortoriotto) off Sardinia to Capri and home again to Livorno. This race also counts towards Sailonline’s Magical Mediterranean Series and the SuperBuddy title. Online, you will be sailing a Mini 6.50, to give you a match against several of the real-life entrants, which you will be able to track on-screen!

Welcome to yet another all-new route. This next race is part of our Ocean Championship as well as the ROW series. Falklands to Tasmania, is like last year's island to island.
