Board » General Discussion » finish line

I arrived in the night and crossed the finish line, when i looked in the morning, my boat had crossed correctly the finish but was not registred as arrived. I lost about 100 places. Can we trust the other registrations when the most important does not function correctly ?
Hi Winston,

I understand your concern. We think we've found the finish line bug and are currently working on a fix. The bug was not in our mathematical algorithms but a logic error when under certain circumstances the server did not register the finish to the database. Regarding the overall robustness of the system I think we're doing pretty well. Since we're giving out almost all data, and have frequent update intervals our alert users usually notice immediately when something in our model is not correct. We also try to always be very transparent and open regarding bugs and deficiencies in the system, so that there is always a common trust between us and users. I hope this answers your question!
I have now recalculated all finish times, they should be correct now.
Kalle can u check my routing why the boat haven't finished yet... or did something wrong....????
otpkma, I'm pretty sure I sent you an email earlier today where I gave you a finish time. The boat is not at the finish line but it doesn't matter, it is registered as finished and has a correct finish time.
oooppsss sorry ...was skiing and haven't opened my e-mail yets sorry ....and Happy New Year ...!!!!
happy sailing in 2009 and thx
hope everything goes well with the software in this year, so that you may have less problems to solve
Thanks Winston, I hope so too!
I am currently competing in the Stockholm and Gothenburg race and after succesfully negotiating the narrow straights and coming out of them in second place i pointed the boat at the middle of the finish line and went out for the day. Upon returning i checked to see if i had finished and saw i have sailed right through the finish line and am now in third place and am having to sail back to the finish line. Why has this happened when i have finished correctly as i am unhappy about this. Can you please look into this and why it happened and also correct the final positions to show i finished second
Well... the race has not started yet... so the finish line is not sticky. :-)
...one of the guys behind the game...

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Samoa to Hawaii

The second race of our new series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones, takes us northward again up the Pacific Ocean, now from Samoa at 13.5 degrees South, across the Equator to Hawaii, famed for its breaking surf and active volcanoes, on the edge of the Tropic of Cancer at 19.5 degrees North. It’s 2300nm, so we’ll take our very steady Steinlager II. Race #1982

Beketov by Balloon 2026 - In Siberia

Way-back-when France and England, and Spain as well, were squabbling about who should control what of North America, only to lose the most of it to their own insurging colonists, their eastern European neighbour empire, Russia, was quietly assimilating vast, thinly nomadically populated territory of its own – Siberia! Amongst the many explorers and adventurers that served Russia so well in these conquests was the Cossack hetman Pyotr Beketov. Let’s pretend we’re he and eschewing horseback, let’s travel by balloon from Yekaterinberg to Krasnoyarsk – just a short 2000km (1100nm) section of the Trans-Siberian Express’ 9289km!

West Papua to Oregon 2026

Our next race in our Ocean Championships is the first of a series of great natural migrations we will track in 2026. The leatherback turtle is the most widely distributed marine reptile on planet Earth, and chooses to breed in warm tropical waters, but prefers to forage in more temperate habitats, travelling thousands and thousands of miles effortlessly annually to maintain this way of life. Our race will follow one of the typical trips of this turtle, from breeding grounds in the seas off West Papua to the coast of Oregon. It’s only 5900nm, so to keep up, but in comfort, we’ll follow in our Gunboat 90.
