In most browsers F11 makes the webpage go full screen. However, this doesn't work (at least not here) when the focus is on the flash client. With a bit of trying I'm sure you'll be able the get the client fullscreen. But you're right, a button within the client might be better :)

16. full screen button

En bedankt :)

Jawz:

I believe people have expressed opinions before about what data should be made visible to competitors, and with what frequency. See item 6 on this list where there was a request for more information about competitors.

17. (see also 6) More/less information about competitors with more/less updates. Possibly an option for stealth mode (being excluded in a number of position updates).

I think at least boats within a number of miles should be visible, and update very frequently, because it's like that IRL, you can see boats that are close. I really hope that hourly (preferably more frequent) positions will be available at least after the race.

Being unable to see your competitors (live) would certainly add some interesting elements. But we also loose a lot of interesting elements.

It is already possible to see what any specific competitor is doing in terms of # position, heading and speed, by using only the tools available to every competitor in the standard SOL layout. What possible need could there be for any special "button" to give this info at a glance?
While it might be "nice" to have a TWA course projector line calculated out to 7 or even 14 days for my own boat--and every competitors boat, too!--- I don't think such info would greatly improve the thinking ability of my aging brain!
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
Rod:

6. Improvements to gameplay: Include boat course and speed indication when pointer hovered over boat (now only displays name and rank)

6- This is simple answer : NO ! ...one of the fundamental rules of SOL ( see manual ) is that no one player knows navigation data of competitors ) ..This rule is already broken by some tools available to solers , that I have more than once declared I am opposing to....now you suggest instant full information on competitors by pointing of mouse ...well it may happen , but not with my vote ! LOL
;))

About point 6 (showing heading of competitors): I think I understand both sides. At this point the data about other boats (heading+position) is public, but for most only viewable via hmm's sollog and via the client. I don't think it's right to try to hide this data. But I agree that it could make the game a lot more interesting to limit the amount of information about the competitors. THOUGH: competitors in sight (within 10nm or so) should always be visible. This should be thought about well. There probably some technicalities here too. Meanwhile, I think we shouldn't change anything on what data is available about the competitors.

My point was that by clicking on any name on the boat list, you can display his immediately preceding course. With the measure tool you can determine his compass heading. On the polar diagram you know his TWA, and therefore his speed.
Right there you have everything you could possibly need to know---other than the colour of his socks!!!
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
18. Visibility of boats. Some boats are very hard to see because of their colour.

I think Aaron started making something that would pick better colours for our boats.

---
Rod: I agree (or at least I think I do), but I'll expand on a later date.
19. Change page title (showed as title of tab in browser), so that the name of the race comes first, then "- Sailonline.org". example: "Cape Town - Abu Dhabi - Sailonline.org". Argument: When you have multiple races open in tabs, it's easier to navigate.

See image that illustrates the problem

20. Prevent SLI jumping, see here
A new suggestion: To have on the drawing SOL tool not only the capability of giving the information about the pair (distance in nm ; drawn HDG in decimal degrees) but, also the Inverse HDG, e.g.:

Inverse HDG = HDG + 180º if HDG ≤ 180º, or
Inverse HDG = HDG - 180º if HDG > 180º.

When you are sailing near the “rocks” you’ll appreciate that.
Sail Fair.

Refeno Rally 2024

Although since 1986 this 300nm course from Recife, Brazil, to Fernando Noronha Island has been run many times IRL, we have only used this route twice in SOL. This time it will be the route of the last race in the ARCH 2024 classification.
Although the winner of the general classification can already be determined, the fight for the next places on the podium should be fierce. There are several contenders and Dofour34 have them at their disposal. Since we are starting in Vida_Maldita's home waters, he will give us a 30-minute handicap. Or maybe we should give it to him? 😊

The Beagle in the Azores 2024

And west the Beagle went one final time to round the Cape of Good Hope on May 31 1836. Ashore, Darwin met up with the Astronomer Royal, Herschel, who just happened to be in South Africa at the same time mapping the southern skies. After sounding out his many ideas on evolution and extinction with Herschel, the Beagle now sailed north, stopping briefly in St Helena, Ascension and Brazil, and the Cape Verdes again, to reach the Azores on September 19, 1836. Fitzroy and Darwin at this stage were in a hurry to get back to Britain, but online in 2024 we will stay a little longer to explore this final remote archipelago in our virtual Tall Ship Class B Beagle, 630nm round and about the islands, minding as always in these waters not to bump into any large cetaceans!
