SNAG

nacrr just pointed out that there was an invisible boat at rank 199 in the Tall Ships race... turns out to be the guest boat (which should not be sailing)... I made it inactive.

199 was not at the start (so it wasn't as if the boat was just sitting at the start) but between 200 and 198 which at time of writing are at 184.65 and 183.72nm respectively.
I don't think the SYC Ranking is getting updated. It used to show ongoing races with a DNF (did not finish) designation during the race. But still showed the ranking during races, and included them n the points count. Now it looks like no one is racing the Tall Ships Med. race.
I confirm that there isn't the daily updating of rankings SYC.
In all the rankings, at the time, is missing the last Tall Med.

Carlo Alberto
The ranking issue should be fixed next night.
GOOO hmm GOOOOOO!
you are exceptional, thanks for all the work you are doing for us.

In the Georgian Bay race,

Now that my predictor goes past the Wx box boundary the yellows dots set for 3 hrs do not correspond correctly.

*
They are moving backwards but seem to be marking the halfway point between my boat & the boundary.

None so blind
The pink bounds are the course bounds.. the wx overlaps by a margin.

It may be that we need to start being a bit more generous (again) with wx system sizes. Folks were unhappy about course bounds that left them way adrift if they'd been unable to get to a puter, so we kept course/wx sort of "tidily" together. Maybe we need to let the wx zone be a couple degrees either side of the course bounds in future.

Thanks for the heads-up.
I've run across something in the Georgian race. DCs not cleared from the DC list after they have fired. I went to set another DC about five minutes after one had fired. Wanted to change a value in the new one, so went to list and selected the only one listed (thinking it was the one I had just entered). When I made the change in the field and hit "submit", I got an error that said time had already past. After a bit of head scratching, I refreshed the list and there was the unchanged new DC.

Shouldn't the old DC clear out of the DB shortly after it fires?
I don't think this is a 'new' issue.

Just as the DC can take a while to appear in the list unless you refresh it. it can take just as long to disappear from the list unless you refresh it.

I have found this to be the case "forever" :))
I've got a strange thing happening at present - the wind speed and direction reported in the status bar at the bottom of screen is not the same as what is reported from crosshairs in top right?
The speed/direction in the status bar appear to be from one hour into the future?!

Not sure whether this is a server issue or something to do with the fact we have just moved into Daylight Saving here, I have tried restarting browser and PC but problem persists.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Suez to Port Said

When Napoleon (briefly) occupied Egypt at the turn to the 19th C, he ordered his expedition’s Directeur des Ponts et Chaussées, Jacques-Marie Le Père, to evaluate the ancient, derelict, infilled course of a Ptolemaic canal connecting the Red Sea to the Nile via the Great Bitter Lake, versus a new canal to the Mediterranean directly. Neither were considered feasible – locks to climb a pauvre-surveyed 10m sea-level difference, or continuous dredging of the Nile, would both be equally financially prohibitive. Fifty years passed before the unlikeliness of Le Père’s survey finding was challenged and a French Compagnie Universelle du Canal Maritime de Suez obtained a 99-year concession from the Khedive of Egypt, Said Pasha, to construct and operate a canal from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, much against the will of the Ottoman Sultan, Abdulmecid I (the Pasha’s nominal overlord), and the wishes of the (Irish) British prime minister, Lord Palmerston. The year was 1859, the very number of this race (planning, dear boy, planning!), which, despite the canal’s double-super-tanker gauge and lack of locks, is strictly prohibited IRL. 85nm in Fareast 28Rs to complete your circumnavigation of Africa!

Red Eye - Frisian Isles Trophy 2025

For our final “Red Eye” race, we invite you to cross the Noord Zee to the Wadden Zee, where a 160nm course around a few sandy islands raced on SOL only once before in 2010 awaits you. We don’t have a replica of Erskine Childers’ Dulcibella in our boathouse, and in any case if we took her out, we might well contract more than one “Red Eye”, so instead we’ll race our very own riddle of the sands in Farr 400s!

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!
