Happy New Year, SOLers all, and, here, without further ado is an early outline for your sailonline.org Racing Programme 2026. This year, the long tradition of recognizing the most dedicated and winniest SOLer with a SUPerSOLer award will be replaced by instead recognizing the SOLer who scores best overall over the 43 planned buddied races after 6 discards with a new SUPerBUDdy prize.

This year also, we shall discontinue the All-Round Championships, replacing this series, with a number of special series, some new, some repeats. The annual ever-popular Ocean Championship, Sprint Championship, and TIMED Championship, however continue, as before. Click on the images to discover more about these always fiercely contested annual contests.

Some, in fact most, of the races of the Ocean Championships will also count towards other series, namely a Round the Old World series, a Round the New World series, and The Migrations series, which latter will also include two races of insufficient length and duration to be proper SOL Ocean races. And one Ocean race, the Cape to Rio, which starts before the New Year is a buddy-up and thus will count towards the SUPerBUDdy title. Three of last year’s other special series will repeat in 2026, but each with a subtle difference. Our four-race iceboat series will be restyled as the New Ice Age in the form of four long-distance races, two in the Arctic, two in the Antarctic. Our balloon series will reduce by one in number to three, but will be across land, ignoring land/water boundaries entirely. And our Red Eye series, of races in high resolution weather generally overnight, will increase to eleven in number, and will include buddied races whenever possible. Two further series complete the challenges for you to take on, both determined by the likelihood of variability and surprise in forecasted weather; the Magical Mediterranean series of eleven races including several buddy-ups; and the Cross the Convergence Zones series of nine races, each and every one crossing the Equator. Finally, as always, many of our buddied races that will all count towards the SUPerBUDdy prize, will themselves be part of various short series, including this year our two races to Tasmania in partnership with the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria, which we are adding to our traditional year-end double from New South Wales to Tasmania and back to create a new Tasman Quadruple. Lake Victoria TIMED Race 2026

This month’s TIMED race takes us inland to Lake Victoria in the heart of Africa. Starting at Rosebery Channel in Uganda sail the AC72v2 on a 196nm course around Bugala Island on the way to the finish line in Tanzania’s Speke Gulf. This is a TIMEDrace so you may RE-REGISTER HEREto try again after finishing a run. You will have 13 days and 11 hours to test your skill and decision making after the race opens.

SSANZ Round North Island Race 2026 - Leg 4

The final challenge awaits in Leg Four of the Round North Island Series! From Napier, the fleet sets off on a 354 nautical mile run back to Auckland, completing the full circumnavigation where the journey began. Fatigue may be setting in, but this last leg could decide the overall standings. Sailing the fast and responsive Sun Fast 3600, our skippers will need sharp tactics and steady focus to finish the series strong and claim victory!

SSANZ Round North Island Race 2026 - Leg 3

Leg Three of our Round North Island Series, in partnership with SSANZ, keeps the pressure on! From Cook Strait, the fleet turns north for a 187 nautical mile passage up the east coast to Napier. It may look like a quick overnighter, but shifting coastal winds and the ever-lively Cook Strait demand sharp focus. In our responsive Sun Fast 3600s, a proven short-handed racer and powerful downwind performer, tactical decisions and precise timing will make all the difference!

South China Sea Race 2026


Welcome all to the South China Sea and a virtual chase in Cookson 50’s of the Rolex South China Sea fleet, racing 650nm – as the local red-footed booby flies – from Hong Kong to Subic Bay on the southern tip of The Philippines’ Luzon Island. Chances are it will be a fast downwind ride, so see how you can keep up with the real-life fleet which we hope to be able to follow on our monitors.

Iceland to the Falklands 2026

Welcome to an all-new route, the first of three Round the 'Old World' of Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. To give each leg of the ROW a bit of length we'll try to hug the coasts as little as possible, so starting in Iceland our first leg of the series, which will also be the final leg of our Quarter 1 Ocean Championships takes us 7200nm to the Falklands, the full length of the Atlantic end to end. To make sure we'll get it done within the month we'll be sailing our Maxi Trimaran.
