Commentary

The Sado Island PYOC sprint tested ones ability to read the winds in a not so obvious choice at the start of keeping the island either to port or starboard. Which prerace looked to include black arrows with winds between 50-110 NM!!! At racetime those future winds proved an abberation and normal winds were experienced during the race. As it turned out most opted to keep the island to starboard which proved to be the correct choice. The first boats finished 6.25 hours after the start. It was so close there was less than a second between the first and second place finishers, separated by milliseconds by the server to determine the winner. Congratulations FreyjaUSA and CriticalHippo, and to WRmirekd for grabbing the final position on the podium an eternity of 9 seconds later. Thirteen minutes later the serious contenders who kept Sado to port finished. Congratulations Flamingo and Vida_Maldita.

Sado, as the final sprint of Q3 in the quarterly championship means we now know that the quarterly podium went to CritialHippo, rafa, and Flamingo who managed to win the P3 position even with sailing the port route round Sado. For the annual championships the race is very tight for P1 and P2 with FreyjaUSA and CollegeFund separated only by 1 point. Stay tuned as the annual championship battle wraps up with the Q4 races that will feature three previously raced courses.

Sail Around Turkey 2025

Welcome to the 11th running of one of Sailonline's most iconic races, where our fleet races the length of the Turkish coastline from Hopa (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast). It’s a 1,372nm race and aboard our classic, 1st decade of the 21st Century, version 2 IMOCA 60, you should be able to get around the course in less than a week. That is if, of course, once you get out of the Black Sea you don’t stop to enjoy the sights or a BBQ or two in the Golden Horn, or on the Marble Islands, now land-locked Troy or Gallipoli or any of the myriad Aegean islands, that you shall have to carefully navigate past.
