Commentary
Who could have imagined that this, only our second buddy-up with Svendborg Amatør Sailing Club (SASC) for the Silverrudder "Challenge of the Sea" 2017 , would turn out to be such a wonderful opportunity for Sailonline, with a team of SOLers embedded with SASC for the duration of the race. As a consequence, Sailonline enjoyed tremendous exposure in a TV-interview with Danish TV2 as well as in the last part of the Prize Giving Ceremony , while in the virtual race 171 registered boats took part, flying the flags of 37 different nations. The winning X-99 in the real fleet, skippered by Jan-Hendrick Franzen, was presented with a Sailonline baseball cap, together with a certificate of participation.

Sailonline and the team of SOLers embedded with SASC for the duration of the race would like to express their gratitude for such a wonderful opportunity to participate, live and in person, in Svendborg during this event.

Wind conditions were not the most favourable for a "fast trip around Funen" and, in addition the IRL fleet had to struggle with a counter current that, at the start, forced a lot of them to throw anchor to prevent them from drifting backwards. And so it was, that almost all the SOL X-99'rs had rounded Ranzausminde, before the IRL boats got on their way at all. The same situation occurred in the Little Belt between Middlefart and Strib Odde, so overall this wasn't a fair competition between the SOL boats and the IRL X-99'rs. Nevertheless, our top ten did a great performance and gratz to you all.

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara

Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!

Falklands to Tasmania 2026

Welcome to yet another all-new route. This next race is part of our Ocean Championship as well as the ROW series. Falklands to Tasmania, is like last year's island to island. It’s one of the longer ones 6400nm, more than half way around the world (and the Antarctica). It starts the 2026 OCQ2, and will be sailed in our Steinlager 2, contrary to prior notice.
