This six race series over 2017Q2&Q3; was timed to favour SOLers in the Far East and Australia/New Zealand with a start time that was targeted for their Saturday morning in their winter when they might not be on the water.

Unfortunately we have only had a few SOLers participating from that region but two have managed to get a top ten result.

The six race series podium is occupied by an Italian (Franci), a Dane (Bimmer) and a Canadian (azur) in that order each of whom has gone beyond their comfort zone to start at 0200 UTC on courses that preclude a hasty snooze or even a quick hour back in their bunk.

Anyway, congratulations to the podium and SRC was pleased to see intermezzo and Kipper1258, both Australians, in the top ten for the series.

The SRC would really like to know what it needs to do to engender more enthusiasm for Sprint races among Far Eastern and ANZAC sailors to increase participation. Email src@sailonline.org with ideas please.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Mogadishu to Suez


Nearly there; only 2500nm to go, round the Horn and up the Red Sea to Suez into what will more than likely be more headwinds for this sixth leg of our African circumnavigation, to be followed in September by a final sneaky dash up the canal back to where we started all those months ago. We’ll be sailing a not entirely appropriate-for-upwind-work 60ft Trimaran!

Great Nicobar to Marion Island 2025
