Come and race the route of the gray whale’s magnificent autumn migration from the Bering Sea to Mexico with Sailonline in a classic 90ft Monohull! Our race starts on 6 November at 2300utc and is already open for practice.

First created for Sailonline in 2010 this race celebrates the remarkable life cycle and migration route of the Gray Whale. In 2010 and 2011 we raced from Mexico up to the Bering Sea in late Spring (the mother and calf route), in 2013, 2014, 2015 and now again in 2016 we follow the autumn swim down from the icy north to the warm and shallow breeding grounds in the lagoons off Baja California.

Another year has passed since we were here and, sadly, the health of Earth’s oceans and their marine life remain under serious threat. As you enjoy this race, please also make the time to share knowledge and information about our oceans and what we as individuals can do to preserve and restore them.

Useful Info.

Halifax to Hooper Bay 2024

And now it’s Autumn in the Arctic, the sun is permanently below the horizon, but during the day, from c 0900 to c 1700 local time, there is some twilight – nautical twilight, not to be confused with civil twilight which is brighter. Having receded all summer, ice is starting to return to the numerous straits and bays of Canada’s North West Passage. High time then to set off on our last leg of the High Latitudes Series from Halifax in Nova Scotia to Alaska’s Hooper Bay. It’s 3850nm and we need to hurry, so we’ll take the Pelagic 77!

Port Huron to Chicago 2024

At the end of the third quarter of the ARCH series, we invite you to participate in a nice regatta with RC44 on the Great Lakes in the USA. We sail 460nm from Port Huron across the lakes to Chicago.
Throw away unnecessary ballast from your boats. Fresh water has less buoyancy, which means greater draft and greater resistance to movement, which means lower speeds, etc.😊

The Beagle in Tahiti 2024

Leaving the Galapagos behind, the course was west again, and by November 15th the Beagle reached Tahiti. Like Gauguin, sixty years later, Darwin found the natives, recently Christianized, pleasant and intelligent, but unlike Gauguin, this did not persuade him or his captain, Fitzroy, to tarry long. Let’s have a sail-around in 2024 anyway; 640nm, as ever in the Class B Tall Ship HMS Beagle.
