Commentary
The Hawaiian ZigZag race is always fun, introducing SOL'ers to the challenging waters around the Hawaiian Islands. They have a magic about them that permeated every programme made about them. Those lucky enough to have visited them will say that however modern the lifestyle becomes, underpinning it all are the traditional ways, respecting both the volcanoes of the islands themselves and the waters around them. The narrow and rock-strewn channels between the islands are challenging, as the waters of the Pacific, whipped up by prevailing trade winds, can form vortices and currents to test the mettle of even the most courageous. Couple this environment with vog from Kīlauea, affecting mostly Kone island, and sailing here in reality can be very interesting.

Into the second half of 2017 and the third of our three-boat-choice championship. Proving immensely popular, despite the occasional hiccup when folks disqualify themselves when not reading the rules thoroughly enough, the events themselves, comparing directly the performance(s) of the three 40ft boat choices, has made for great in-race chat as well as some excellent Race Reports submitted for the results blogs. Long may this new-style championship continue – especially in conjunction with buddied events, that really brought a tremendous interactivity to the race screen.

This was a good race and our podium and top finishers are to be congratulated for their success.
Congratulations!

SWR 17/18 Leg 11 Gothenburg to The Hague
Then we've made it to Gothenburg.
And with the experience that The North Sea can be just as rough as the Southern Pacific.
Ok, it's time for sailing our final leg to The Hague, with a little detour around the Danish city of Aarhus, a so-called "fly-by".
And beware – the North Sea can still be very tricky, so fair winds to you all.

Sail Fiji 2018
Welcome to Sail Fiji 2018.
This time there will be no RAYC IRL fleet to beat, so we have the 1144nm from New Zealand to Fiji ahead of us, in our "old" Volvo Ocean racer, the VO70v4, completely to ourselves.
The time set in 2016 was a little under 66½ hours, done by "outlaw".
We can do better this time, can't we?
