Series Leaderboard
Once every three years, indomitable and tough yachties race in reality out from Auckland, across the Hauraki Gulf on an adventure of a lifetime – circumnavigating New Zealand’s North Island. With wild weather arriving from the Southern Oceans and the Pacific, this is not a race for the inexperienced or foolhardy, as conditions can prove immensely testing on both boat and crew. For the third time, Sailonline was buddied with the real event organised by the Short-handed Sailing Association of New Zealand (SSANZ) and we were able to bring the entire racing fleet on-screen in our virtual race, which brought a real sense of inter-participation. Sure, we were racing virtual Young 11s from the comfort of our armchairs, but it was fascinating to see just how comparable were the performances across the real fleet.

There were four podiums in our real event and each of these, together with our series top three, are to be congratulated for putting in superb performances in interesting conditions:

SWR 17/18 Leg 11 Gothenburg to The Hague
Then we've made it to Gothenburg.
And with the experience that The North Sea can be just as rough as the Southern Pacific.
Ok, it's time for sailing our final leg to The Hague, with a little detour around the Danish city of Aarhus, a so-called "fly-by".
And beware – the North Sea can still be very tricky, so fair winds to you all.

Sail Fiji 2018
Welcome to Sail Fiji 2018.
This time there will be no RAYC IRL fleet to beat, so we have the 1144nm from New Zealand to Fiji ahead of us, in our "old" Volvo Ocean racer, the VO70v4, completely to ourselves.
The time set in 2016 was a little under 66½ hours, done by "outlaw".
We can do better this time, can't we?
