Another first for SOLers - racing against the real fleet from Lerwick to Bergen across the North Sea and its famously rapidly changing conditions. At first sight, this race appeared very straightforward, but it proved to be anything but simple. Those who grabbed the podium spots, and those hot on their heels, are to be commended for spotting how to reach the finish line before the rest of us. With 15 seconds between 1st and 2nd and only ONE second between 2nd and 3rd spots this really was a battle of the giants! Bravo!
SHETLAND RACES - 20-25 JUNE 2012
Sailonline is delighted to be buddying with Fjordsailing for one of the return legs of this year's Shetland Races. The Races see boats set sail for Lerwick in Shetland from Bergen and from Alesund in Norway on Wednesday, 20 June. This year, for the first time SOLers will be sailing one of the two return legs, from Lerwick back to Bergen on Sunday 24 June. Fjordsailing has also said that there will be a prize for the winning SOLer!The North Sea at this time of year can be fickle and unpredictable and this year is proving no exception - it will be both challenging and fun to see who arrives first back in Bergen!!

Magnus Olsson was one of the best-known and most liked of all ocean racers and tributes to him say it all. In memory of this remarkable sailor, SOLers have decided to race his mythical Quingdao-Rio leg of the 2008 Volvo Ocean Race. It will be 12519nm on VO70v4s!
